So who is doing this race in October?

My husband and I are both thinking about it, but it's Homecoming weekend at UVa, so we'll miss packet pick-up.  If we can make other arrangements, we're in.

Of course, he will have finished before I even hit that 50M pool  Cool

It is a great one to end the season with. The 50m pool is not that bad. It may slow you down a few seconds per lap if you are used to getting a good strong flip turn in every 25m. The bike route has one long hill in the middle that you think will never end but otherwise it is not bad. I am hoping to do it also but will wait until after the Patriot Oly to sign up. ( if I survive )

This will be my 1st Tri. I hope to get a ride on the route in before hand and a few swims in the 50m pool to get a feel for the difference.

Bayrunner, this is a great one to start with. Unless you are an ACAC member you cannot swim in the 50m lanes. They do open it up to people who enter the tri the weekend of the race for a couple of hours. I plan to ride the course a few weeks before also. Probably on saturday morning. Richmond Multisports will host a pre-ride probably one or two weeks before.

I'll have to keep an eye out for those rides, thanks. I was thinking of trying a early Sunday AM if I end up doing a solo ride. Luckily I have a co-worker who is a member of ACAC and I am going to go with him a few times and swim there. As far as I know as long as the 50m lanes are not being used by swim team we can use them, at least I hope so.

HAving friends that can help you out is great. It is a little different in the 50 M lane. I like it better than 25M because I am still learning flip turning so I just get slowed down more when I come to the wall more often.

My wife and I are doing this event again this year! We have been part of a tri training team at the Chester Y. We have about 30 people in the group. It has been great so far.

I am planning to ride the bike course Sunday 9-13 as early as possible to beat the traffic. If anyone wants to come along PM me or post here.

I'm thinking about it and still on the fence.  I have a marathon two weeks after that and a long run that weekend.  I'll probably end up volunteering instead of racing.

Maybe, would like to find a race to close the year out on.  Was thinking about the race at Lake Anna but it is sold out.

From the Richmond Multisports website - "Race is almost at 400 now 4.5 weeks remaining, price bump Sept 15th." Don't know what the cut off is but I guess I better go ahead and sign up before it fills up. I think there were 500 last year. The course is great except for one really long hill in the middle of the bike course. I had a flashback yesterday about the race conditions last year. It was cold at sunrise and I remember wearing a sweatshirt while setting up my transition area but by the time we came out of the pool the sun was shining and it was warming up nicely. I think that by the time I got up the hill I mentioned earlier that i was plenty warmed up. Great run conditions. Hopefully it will be the same or better this year.

I did the race in 2005 and 2006.  Some years, it is very cold.  I left a full-zip jacket in transition and put it on the second year I did it.  I was very happy to have it.  If it's chilly in the morning, bring a jacket.  You don't necessarily have to wear it, but you may be happy you had it there.

i'm not sure if i want to do this one now, tempted to go out on a high note and take some breather time before training for shamrock 1/2 marathon, but what's a little itty bitty sprint, right???

Bayrunner, How did you like the bike route. I am hoping to get in a practice ride on the 19th. I think I am going to do a swim/bike brick at ACAC. Anyone up for it? Ride would start around 7:30.

RecTri,

This is my 1st Tri so I don't have any comparisons to make but I can honestly say that hill is going to make me work. I had driven the route but I am very glad I took the time to ride it. It seems like a well laid out route and should have plenty of room for everyone, a couple of tight turns but agian I have nothing to compare it to as far as Tri routes go. Looking forward to the race, starting to feel the nerves about it all to be honest.

Nerves are normal for the first time but once you start the time spent training and preparing takes over and you will love it. There is nothing like crossing the finish line at your first race. I will try to be there to see it if you don't pass me.

I'm a maybe... want to do something, haven't swam since my last event.  The pool I train at has been closed for maintenance among other things that have kept me out of the water.  Looking for something to close the year out on in terms of triathlons.

I'm in.  Officially registered this weekend.  This will be my second tri.  W00t!  I'm out of town so I probably won't have an opp. to ride the route although I'd like to.  I'll def. check it out the day before though.

Last chance before the price bump to $75. Sign up today. There is still 100 or so spaces left so if money is not a factor you can wait a little longer.

Laurie should pay me.
