Key Biscayne, FL
Multirace
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 22m 46s
Overall Rank = 118/319
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 3/16
Pre-race routine:

up at 4am, ate/had coffee; drove from coral springs.
Event warmup:

set up area...no warm up.
Swim
  • 11m 2s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 46s / 100 meters
Comments:

Once I got away from the group, the swim was fine...I picked a bad place to start-and spent probably 4-5 minutes trying to get out of the pack...the swim is my strongest link, but not in this race!!!
What would you do differently?:

start in the front row of the wave.
Transition 1
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

ok...dorkus move...ran out of transition, tried to get clipped in, realized my chain was off!!! Tried to fix it in a panic, fumbled with it, got it fixed, then went on my way!
What would you do differently?:

CHECK MY BIKE OVER BEFORE THE START OF THE RACE! DUH!
Bike
  • 43m 41s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 17.03 mile/hr
Comments:

felt strong...my chain mistake cost me some time...my computer had me averaged at 19mph, so I must have lost some significant time. I also could've pushed it a bit more, but wasn't sure what I'd have left for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

dont' have much to compare it to..just one race 1 1/2 years ago...my shorts were kind of hard to get on over my wet legs/suit...
What would you do differently?:

don't like my suit at all-I'm going to shop around for a 2 piece, so I don't have to mess with shorts.
Run
  • 25m 25s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

this was a pretty run, along the ocean, winding through the park...some sunny spots, but it was still not too hot (will do the same couse in the summer-egads-it will be hot then! I did negative splits on each mile, but I ran pretty conservatively. It took me a while to get my breathing regulated after the bike.
What would you do differently?:

For this race, maybe nothing...for future, I think I will push harder. And do more biking so I don't feel so winded after the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

grabbed some water and headed to the finish line to take chips for the remaining racers (it was a duathlon and olympic race as well) some stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I just tried to enjoy the race and not kill myself..also, I felt hungry at the start of the swim, so I should eat more.

Event comments:

The announcer was great at the finish line. The course was excellent. Loved the area. All in all a great race.

Wow, Mimi, you're in Coral Springs??? Wish I'd known that.  We could've carpooled (YOU drive, I sleep!)  I'm right in west Boca.  Great job.  Chain stuff happens.  Your times really look good!

Great race Mimi!  Good job hanging in there and sticking w/ it despite the chain issue, and the swim positioning.  I'm sure I can learn a lot from your experience.  You should be very proud.  I was so happy you saw me, and not once but twice!!!  I was happy to have been there to cheer you on!  You looked strong, and sounded happy each time I saw you.  Good for you girl!  I wish I could've met and chatted w/ you... maybe next time.  You were worth staying up until midnight making that darn sign.  Again, congrats!

Mimi. Congratulations!

I live on Key Biscayne. I know what you mean about "the bridge". I do it every day and when the wind is more than 15 mph- whoa!!

Remember: "what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger"

COngratulations and look out for the next tri on the Key in August.

I just saw all the nice comments...thanks.  The swim was in the Atlantic-along the shoreline.  I thought this race was just great-other than that bridge.  But hey, it just gave me more motivation to TRAIN HARDER/RACE SMARTER!!!  Can't wait to go back there in the summer.
