Subject: D'oh! Idiot fall # 258So I was out on a 40 mile ride today (The Shoo Fly Classic, in case anyone is interested ). Around 30 miles out, as I am heading up a slope (too small to really be a hill ), I shifted into my small chain ring and see the chain drop off. Now at this point, I am not going too slow, and I have plenty of time to unclip, stop, and fix the problem. But even though I have never actually done this, I had read somewhere that you can shift back to the big ring, keep pedaling, and the chain will shift back on. So I try it. And watch as the chain just sits there. Then I get the realization that "Hey dummy, now you ARE going too slowly!". And tip over. Still clipped in. Giving the guy coming up behind me a good chuckle. Although I DID manage to unclip just before I hit the asphalt. |
