Regular 71![]() ![]() Charlotte | Subject: A couple first TRI questionsFirst TRI is this Saturday and I have a couple quick questions. - First is about Chamois Butt'r, will this completely wash away during the swim portion? How about Body Glide? I will have to reapply bc going without would be a big problem hoping I dont need to though. - Second Race Numbers, is there one attached to your bike and then a seperate number on your belt that you put on at T2? - Finally how many people bring something to wash off feet from swim to bike and what do you bring? Thanks again for all the help!!!! |

Thanks again for all the help!!!! I never used chamois butter so I don't know for sure, but I bet it would stay enough for a race. There will be a number for your bike and one for your person. You can pin it to you shirt and race with it from the beginning (which seems sort of annoying to me) or better yet, get a cheap race belt and attach it to that and put it on in T2. I never washed me feet after the swim. I might brush them a bit with my hands to make sure I have no big rocks or anything stuck to them, but that's about it. good luck! |

Thanks again for all the help!!!! 1) Body Glide does not wash off during the swim. 2) Race numbers: usually one on your bike, maybe one on your helmet, and one for running. I put it on my race belt and grab it to put on while I'm running. You don't have to have it completely on before you leave T2. Just have it with you. 3) I don't usually bring anything. If you want to, put some water in a water bottle and then you can squirt it over your feet to wash them off. |

Member 190![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Panama City Beach | Subject: RE: A couple first TRI questionsChamois Butt'r - I have no idea. Body Glide - no I won't wash off during the swim. Race Numbers - Some races have them for your bike and for your person, some just have one race bib number that you wear on the run. Your body marking works for the swim and bike. Some pin the number to their shirt. I find this annoying on the bike, so I use a race belt after T2. Wash bucket - Yes allot of people bring a bucket or something to wash the sand off. If you want to do that you will not stand out. My first race I took a bright yellow foot tub with ducks on it. Most likely after several races you will not want to full with it. For your first race do as much or as little as you like, you won't stand out at all. Good luck and have fun. |

How about Body Glide? I will have to reapply bc going without would be a big problem hoping I dont need to though. Depends. If you apply ample enough, you'll make it through the swim and the bike. Body glide stays on quite well. I apply two layers/passes in the morning, then some time later before the race, I'll reapply in the bathroom. - Second Race Numbers, is there one attached to your bike and then a seperate number on your belt that you put on at T2? Most triathlons will provide a sticker with your bib # to put on your helmet and bike frame. There is a bib # that you can pin to your shirt or put on a race belt, that you would put on in T2. - Finally how many people bring something to wash off feet from swim to bike and what do you bring? Thanks again for all the help!!!! Depending on the course from swim to T1, the race may have tub(s) (like what you use to wash dishes) with water in them to step into, or you could bring a large waterbottle filled with water to spray your feet and then wipe quickly with a towel, which I bring, too. |

You won't feel the sand or whatever on your feet when you race. If you have your towel stick out a little you can wipe your feet off on it as you put your helmet and sunglasses on then put your bike shoes on. Have a blast! |

Can't speak for the chamois butt'r, but BG stays on the whole time. - Second Race Numbers, is there one attached to your bike and then a seperate number on your belt that you put on at T2? Yes. (Typically) - Finally how many people bring something to wash off feet from swim to bike and what do you bring? I do not bring anything. Most wipes off on the run into transition, then I am standing on my towel as I change shoes. Whatever's left comes off in my bike shoes. |

Master 1963![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: A couple first TRI questions1) Have you used the butt'r or body glide in training? I personally wouldn't use it for a sprint distance, YMMV 2) The number for your bike and helmet you put on before the race. The number you wear is usually in the back for the bike and the front for the run. It's HUGELY convenient to get a race number belt (<$10) then you can just flip it around. They sell them everywhere. 3) No buckets, or anything. IMHO, making your feet wet again is kind of a pain because it makes putting socks on harder. I use a dry towel and just wipe my feet off, drying and cleaning off sand in one shot. GOOD LUCK. KICK SOME AZZ! |
