Subject: Why are my feet numb?
Today I went out for a bike followed by a run. The bike was about an hour...when I got off the bike, my feet were numb...so numb that it took about 20 minutes of the run until I got feeling back in them. I haven't changed my shoes, my bike, socks or anything like that so i can't figure out why my feet were so numb. Gave a whole new meaning to the word "brick". Any ideas?

Maybe you cranked the bike shoes a little too tight.

If not local pressure from shoes, could be pressure on nerves in your butt.  Have you changed the seat, seat orientation, cycling shorts, lost weight?

You may want to stand up in the pedals and take the weight off one foot and then off the other while coasting for a couple seconds each foot about once per 30 minutes and see if that helps.  Also move your but off the seat now and again to let blood get to your feet, should help.

Also, make sure you pedal a "full" rotation meaning, don't only push down on the pedal, but also lift the pedal on your stroke. If there is pain or numbness while on the bike, you can just pull up instead of push down until your foot gets feeling back.

Not only is it a more efficient pedal stroke, but it should relief some pressure from the constant downward force.

These are all great suggestions - I'll try moving around a bit more tomorrow ... I changed the seat about a month ago, so I think I would have seen an impact from that earlier. Someone locally mentioned that it was the first kind of cold day we have had here which may have some effect.

Thanks again.
