Subject: Not Your Regular Wetsuit Questions

1. I just cleaned my wetsuit after my race this weekend and found that I have white overspray on it that doesn't want to come off.  When I wash it, it appears to go away, but is there again when it dries.  My hubby thinks it is sunscreen (I use the spray kind).  Any ideas on how to get this to come off?  I know it is not the end of the world, but ...

2. My hubby asked if there was something I could put on my wetsuit on the back and on the arms that would make it easier for him to spot me in the water.  Any ideas?

Thanks!

#1 - no idea

#2 - bright ribbon tied around the wrist, or glued?  Brightly colored electrical or duct tape?

You guys are too funny!

I like the electrical tape idea -- do you think it would damage the wetsuit long term?

For #1 - I have the same problem with my wetsuit. I think on mine it is from the Body Glide that I apply on the back of my neck, it gets smeared on the suit. The only way I've figured out how to remove it is to let the suit dry and then rub it off with my fingers.

I don't think so, but I don't know for sure.  Just pull it off carefully and clean off the residue after the race.  Electrical tape is not very sticky.

Test a small piece somewhere that isn't so important (on the inside?) if you are worried about it.

Electrical tape isn't as stretchy as the wetsuit and the adhesive doesn't hold well in the water, so you'll most likely lose it during the swim.

If you've got the typical zipper down the middle of your back, why not replace the normal black pull strap with a high-vis pink or green nylon web?  (This might even be visible while you're in the water).

You might also use some spray paint (maybe test this on an old piece of scrap neoprene or a neoprene cap so if it does eat the neoprene, you haven't ruined the rather expensive wetsuit).  Use a bright color and spray the shoulders and possibly the arms.  Yea, the paint may flake off some, but should still be mostly there the whole swim.  You could also spray-paint the swim cap (stripe down the middle?

Wear a different color swim cap than your wave.  You may need to check with the RD but some races use all the same color, some have different colors for different waves.  If the race uses all the same color it should not be a problem to wear your own so you are more visible.  It may not work in all races but a good solution when possible.

Yes, its sunscreen... and if you find something that rinses it out of your suit please let me know. I've had to retire several suits because of it.

To become more visible in the water I suggest :

Monday - 6000 yards
Tuesday - 7000 yards
Wednesday - 8000 yards
Thursday (step back) - 5000 yards
Friday - 6000 yards

THen just charge out of the gate, get to the first buoy in front of everyone. Once your in front, stay there. He should be able to pick you out then!

My suggestion was going to be similar; get in front and stay in front.
