This site is exactly what I've been looking for in regards to a beginner preparing for my first sprint Tri in May. I've started using the 3x3 balanced. So far so good. It's presenting new challenges which makes working out that much more exciting. I used to be dead set on the weights, but seem to have gotten away from them. Not totally though! I currently weigh about 225 lbs. and I am beginning to lose a few pounds. In the Tri I signed up for they asked if I weighed over 150 or 200. Since I weigh over 200 I was considered a "Clydesdale". Do a majority of the Tri's have weight classes such as this? Thanks for all the insight everyone has posted on this sight. It really helps! Keep it coming.....

Welcome to the site.  Lots of good info here and lots of people who are willing to help.

I think Clydesdales are kind of a relative thing.  Yes, there usually Clydes divisions, but I don't think you have to go into that division, you can be in your age group - depends on the race.  Search the threads, there seems to have been some discussion on this in the recent past.

Again, welcome.

Welcome to the wite and good luck in May.

Usually the bigger races have clydesdale categories in them.  Just because you weigh over 200 doesn't mean you are required to compete in that category, though.  Sometimes the toughest competitors are in that category.

Welcome

Another Bostonian, I think Boston has taken over Boise in having the most BTers.

Welcome - Boston, New England - doesn't matter there are hundreds of folk all over who will cheer you on. Even out here in IA - the only time we have a geographic prejudice is when Chicago plays the Pats

You don't have to sign up in the clydesdale categary but can if you want to. Check out last year's time and see if the 1st clydesdale came in faster than the first in your age category. I know that in my age category, the clydesdale are quite a bit faster.

Welcome, I been here about a month and I have not found another place on the net that people are so reassuring and ready to answer all your questions. Good Luck.
