Total Time = 1h 30m 49s
Overall Rank = 233/441

Age Group Rank = 12/19
Pre-race routine:

Chill, relax. Eat. Ate a lot to be honest. But if i'm hungry, I eat.
Event warmup:

Some dipping in the water. At first i went in without wetsuit, but then figured I might as well try out my wetsuit!
Swim
  • 12m 28s
  • 586 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

First OW Swim. Practically choked myself in the first 200-300 yards. Swimming OW is not what I thought it was. But the good news is I really hit my stride after the turn-around. Fortunately I wasn't sucking much wind, controlled myself very well in terms of relaxing and just stroking.
What would you do differently?:

Navigate better. OMG, I must have swam in zigzags. I have to sight much better and prep much better for the swim segment. My time was ok but really have to be smarter with how I handle the swim segment.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 55m 20s
  • 13 miles
  • 14.10 mile/hr
Comments:

Awful. Had a flat in the first 200 yards of the bike and no kit. First time I decided not to bring a kit/tubes/co2 and this is what happens. Up to now, never had a flat or any tire problems and BAM. A HUGE FLAT on the back half of my bike. My rear tire is having problems remaining in control of the road and it gives out every once in a while. I stopped for about 5-10 minutes to ask the police if there was any mechanical assistance. THey said to go to halfway point and maybe they could help. I get to turnaround, they tell me i have to have my own equipment...

So I plod the 13 miles with a flat tire... frustrating but NOW I KNOW!! It's a shame, because the rolling hills played to my strengths
What would you do differently?:

BRING A DAMN KIT
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 23m 1s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran ok. Not really in great mood but clocked aorund 7 min/mile after the bike nightmare. I barely did any hydration though for this race and need to improve on that
What would you do differently?:

Work on hydrating. Keeping my cool a bit better. 7 min time was ok. Transition was ok as well, knocekd over the racks basically...

Bummer about the bike ride.  Funny thing was right before I went down for the swim, I actually took my stuff off my bike.  I figured if I got a flat it would take me as long to change the flat as it would for me to complete the bike course.

It looks like the rest of your race was solid.  I'm so anal I actually keep my own splits so that I can see all my event times without T1 and T2 in there. 23 minutes on the run counting T2 is quite impressive, esepcially since the racks for the two early waves were far from the run exit.

I didn't know know there was another BT'er at Pawling.
