Master 3479 Utah | Subject: RE: The Ghoulies Are Running a Half Marathon in January!!! Schweet! I'm in. Run 13.1 in a month? Probably the only way I'll be running a half marathon in the next 3 or 4 months. |

Master 3479 Utah | Subject: RE: The Ghoulies Are Running a Half Marathon in January!!! Nice new name, Ann. I thought we had an interloper, too. This brings up a good question, though. Do we have to run in a disguise? I don't wanna be NurseRatchet or something. |

Champion 6656 | Subject: RE: The Ghoulies Are Running a Half Marathon in January!!! Do you have any random facts on Hemochromatosis? What kind of doctor do you want to be when you're done with school? I'm just going to answer in the new thread. Haha. Well...my random facts on hemochromatosis are limited. It is typically considered to be genetic in origin...I'm not exactly sure whether this is impaired iron clearance or excessive storage capacity. Iron overload disorder and the only treatment is basically blood letting. I think patients have to go in every 4-8 weeks to have a phlebotomy done...sounds archaic, but it works. Iron typically deposits systemically--skin deposition ("tanning" of skin), joint deposition (extreme pain in joints--from what I remember it sounds like joints are constantly cracking in severe cases), some joint swelling as well. You would also probably have elevated red blood cells compared to normal, which can result in increased blood pressure, increased clotting-->deep vein thrombosis, heart attack, stroke, etc. Ya...thats my random recall on that disorder...haha Im leaning right now towards internal med. But every talk I go to is the "coolest thing ever"...but internal medicine puts together what I like most about medicine and seems to be the right environment for me. I'm not exactly sure if I will o general or if I will specialise--if I do specialise it would probably be in cardiology or nephrology (kidney). |

I've had 4 blood tests done recently and this is one of the things my doc is looking at. |

The required attire is either typical cold weather wear or you have to run nekkid, you pick. |

Its good that your doc is on top of considering hemochromatosis...I've seen case studies where people have had it and the doctors didn't look for it for a long time into the person's illness. Its definately not the best thing to have, but it is very manageable |

Master 3479 Utah | Subject: RE: The Ghoulies Are Running a Half Marathon in January!!! Ok, I think I got the logs kinda fixed. I have lost all of my long term goals, though. That's ok, I can just re-enter them later. The problem is when I edit my goals, I get the html codes, and I don't speak html. So I must have edited out something I needed...oops. |
