Total Time = 4h 31m 24s
Overall Rank = 620/669
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 88/90
Pre-race routine:

Stayed in hotel with Mom, Dad, Donna, Taylor and me. Tight quaters. Taylor slept in our bed, so not the best sleep - tired now as I write - but didnt effect me today. Woke up - took my bath, Dad drove to race. Had oatmeal at race site - an hour before I started - must do that earlier.
Event warmup:

Went for a little jog, little stretch, little swim...
Swim
  • 46m 9s
  • 2000 meters
  • 02m 18s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt a little scared in this one. The chop was a little rough, drank about 10 gallons of the lake, and got run over a couple of times. Definily not as smooth as Milton, I think becasue they had 30 Ironman spots up for grabs - little more competitive field. Stich on right side about half way through.
What would you do differently?:

Not much...just become a stronger swimmer
Transition 1
  • 03m 22s
Comments:

Excited to see Taylor, Donna, and the rest of the family...so lost a bit of concentration. Actually put my running shoes on...Dad had to ask me what I was doing :)
What would you do differently?:

Put mu bike shoes on when I need to get on the bike.
Bike
  • 2h 02m 40s
  • 55 kms
  • 26.90 km/hr
Comments:

Better ride than last time! Did one proper gear change on a hill that Lance would of been proud...other than that...struggled a bit. Happy with the ride. 26.9 for 55km compared to 25 for 30km...not bad improvement from two weeks ago. Fun to see Simon Whitfield and the rest of the boys on the bike...
What would you do differently?:

Continue to work on my gear changes
Transition 2
  • 02m 22s
Comments:

No prob...lots of kisses for Taylor and Donna.
Run
  • 1h 37m 10s
  • 15 kms
  • 06m 29s  min/km
Comments:

First km, great, 2-4 little rough...4-11 - awesome...11 on - little rough. Had major discomfort on my diaphram that effected my breathing. Took my HR with 3km left and was 160+. Did have some real strong points though. Was really happy.
Post race
Warm down:

No such thing. Hugged Taylor.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My skill.

Event comments:

Way better head space. Been doing some reading lately and think that has helped. Have decided that Peterborough is not going to happen. Could do it I think, but will do Parry Sound and should be able to enjoy it more with a few more weeks to help work on. The race have helped a lot and have allowed me focus a bit more on training - then just logging lots of hours with little return.

Atta boy, Phil.  You sound like you had a much better experience...that makes me happy   It sounds like your cycling is coming right along...that's gotta feel good.  Now that you have decided on Parry Sound, I wanna see you logging some 1/2 Ironman type hours!  You will be glad you did   Great job on your race and awesome having the whole family there...
