Subject: san diego travel & hotel advice?
hi....am hoping y'all can advise:

I'm traveling on business to San Diego in July, and taking husband+11-yo daughter with me. Biz hotel is Westin Gaslamp, at a great rate, but I also want a few quality days on the beach for as little $$ as possible. SO, we figured we'd try to stay on the beach for the last couple of nights - love the luxury of walking out of the hotel & heading straight to the beach. Just need nice sand, surf to play in, and a pool. Exercise room would be swell if I'm supposed to keep training on vacation too, lol. Preferably within short cab ride or shuttle of San Diego airport, bc hadn't planned on renting a car.

Would welcome any suggestions.

Thanks!
Marla

We've stayed at that Westin while I was doing some work and then headed over to a hotel in La Jolla. It seemed much less crowded on the beach

Depends on where in La Jolla. Some areas are rocky cliffs. La Jolla is beautiful but more expensive. I'd vote for Pacific Beach or Mission Beach.

I second PB or Mission Beach. There's a mini-theme park/rec/arcade area in Mission Beach called Belmont Park with an old wood roller coaster and a boardwalk. There's also the bay and boat and kayak rentals in addition to the beach. Great vibe and much cheaper than La Jolla. Although La Jolla has some pretty cliffs.
