Swim
Comments: went out too fast in the beginning, couldn't get the rithm right, inconsistent breathing, turned on my back for a min after the first bouy, caught my breath back, then started breathing every second stroke, became steady (but still slow) for the rest of the swim, it wasn't as hard as i thought, i had a couple 100s meters left in me if i had to swim longer, but i couldn't wait for it to be over wet suit helped a lot, bouyancy felt great! What would you do differently?: train more for the swim! and not rush in the beginning Transition 1
Comments: long run from end of swim to t1, seemed long at least, had some trouble taking off wet suit and putting on shirt, but not bad, ate a gel and reeceys cup, and off i went What would you do differently?: it will come with practice Bike
Comments: definitely most enjoyable part of the race, felt strong the whole way, didn't want for it to end. satisfied with my avg speed of 17.7 What would you do differently?: need to practice turns better, still kinda scared on high speed and slow down a lot for the turns, just need more miles under my seat i guess also need to practice eating and drinking more during the bike Transition 2
Comments: good t2 for the 1st time i thought, didn't panic or run around What would you do differently?: eat during t2 Run
Comments: felt aweful to run right after bike, legs didn't want to obey, felt like i was going to collapse on the 1st little downhill, also kinda bonked, and had cramps in my stomach on top of it. first 2 kmiles i was miserable, even had to walk for a little, then got better. was hoping for a sub-50, but didn't make it, still passed people, but didn't have as much fun as i expected What would you do differently?: need some brick workouts to get my body used to running after bike, wish i ate more on the bike Post race
Warm down: spilled cold water on my head, drank water, ate popcicles, went into the lake and cooled off, ate a ton felt better than after finishing a marathon What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of experience (transitions, nutririon, hydration) and lack of training too Event comments: i did it! i am a triathlete now! feels really good! the race was great, i would do it again possibly, want to try a longer distance (half). it's scary to think about the time commitment for training, unsure if i can train enough to perform well in triathlons and keep my running fast as well. night before: went to rei and bought a tri suit, spare tube and new socks, learned how to change a flat (didn't need it thx god), had prerace pizza at wazee. layed out all the gear on the floor (that was kinda fun! being the gear geek i am).
morning: got up at 4, instead of 3:30 as planned, left close to 5, had pbj sandwich and coffee for breakfast, drink tons of gatorade. got to the race area, picked up the bib, prepared t1/t2 stuff, put on sun screen, got marked, put on wet suit, felt nervous about the swim
ran to the lake/swim start area, went into the lake and swam a little, felt really good wearing a wetsuit
