Why not split the difference?   Decent new Bike can be had for much less ($2-$3k) and a used $7k car is not a junker by any means.    Wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket on the Bike.   Unless your going pro, this is a hobby after all.   Takign that new date out on the handlebars would lead to being in great shape and consequently (hopefully) several 1st dates yet lonely ride home.

Find a decent used Civic in your price range (might even find one with a bit of its warranty left), and you'll be good to go with only minor maintenance for another 5-7 years.

You need to find a woman who is attracted to Hyundais.  Believe me, it'll save you lots of money down the road.

+1

I wouldn't buy a 2010 anything.  Plenty of used cars on the market and leaves you a little money left to put towards a bike.

If you can put that much money towards a bike your not poor and the government is paying you to much.

hahahah +10!  I make good money and roll on a $250 Schwinn.  I have spec'd out some nice bikes for myself but I just can't justify it.

As others have said, there is no way I'd do either of the two things you mentioned.

I would buy a used, but reliable car for fairly cheap.  I don't know where you live, but I just randomly picked Seattle and found a car (in mere seconds) that would be totally reliable for years to come for around $6K.  It even has a roof rack.  Then I would spend another $2K or so on a tri bike.  And then I would save/invest the other $2K.

By the way, I've been in my career for 5 years now and have never had $10,000 just to plunk down on something.  Oh, the joys of being a teacher!
