Subject: RE: Smith Point Triathlon : Official Threadhusse23 - 2010-07-26 11:52 AM Can anyone help me on this issue.
I am looking to cut down on my T1 and want to start the bike with my shoes already clipped in. Can anyone advise on how this is done. I see people use rubber bands but never know how to apply them.
If you know of a good site that demonstrates this, please provide. Most people (myself included ) loop a rubber band through the heel loop of the left shoe then around the rear quick release lever. this will keep your cranks level while you mount, the band will break with the first rotation of the cranks (just dont use a HUGE rubber band ). Please make sure you practice this alot before race day. I've seen too many people try this for the first time and either miss the seat (ouch ) or really struggle to get in their shoes. Once you've landed safely on the seat take a few pedals to get up to speed then put your foot in, pedal more and put your 2nd foot in. Make sure you keep looking at where you're going, not just your shoes!! a better way to cut down on yout T1 time is to practice getting out of your wetsuit with your feet and putting your helmet on at the same time. watch any ITU video at www.triathlon.org and you'll see these guys and girls in and out in about 30 secs hope that helps. |
