Member 125 San Diego | Subject: Trek Speed Concept So assuming it's a good fit, and I expect it to be I am seriously considering the Speed Concept. I can't afford a 9 series so I am looking at the 7.0 vs. 7.2 The only difference in the spec lists is the Front/Rear derailleur, Crank and Wheel Set as far as I can tell. The 7.0 has Apex The 7.2 has Rival I would replace either set-up with a SRAM Force Crank, and Race Wheels for racing, so it seems to be that the $500 less for the 7.0 would make sense. Anyone know if my analysis is missing something? Like unlisted items that I should know about? Thanks all!!! -j |

Master 1888 Winder, GA | Subject: RE: Trek Speed Concept I'm pretty sure the frames are the same so, yes, the difference is in the components. I was also looking at those bikes and the first thing(s) I wanted to upgrade was the RD and the cassette. I don't need an 11-28 cassette with a compact crank, I'd get an 11-23 or 11-25 for racing. You could always change the crankset later. Does your shop have them already? I didn't think any of them were available until at least September. full disclosure: I work very p/t at at Trek dealer. |

New user 10 | Subject: RE: Trek Speed Concept I've been planning to drop my $300 bike and finally get a good TRI bike so I decided to go with P2. Today I call the store and they tell me that they stopped selling Cervelo but they will bring the best TRI bike on the market: Trek Speed Concept. I am not an expert but I read a lot before deciding what to buy and honestly, so far I have found no reason why this bike (Trek Speed Concept 7.0) is better than P2 considering the price is similar. As an example, P2 has Ultegra, which is second set from Shimano while SC-7.0 uses SRAM Apex, a new set that is probably 4th in rank and not proved yet as someone pointed already. Of course, the amazing results of Trek Speed Concept are obtained with the top of the line bike (9.9) not the one that is in my price range. It will be great if someone could explain better why this bike would be the best in that certain range. Thanks. |

The Speed Concept is concidered one of the fastest available frames per wind tunnel tests. SRAM Apex, though new is as someone else posted the old Rival gruppo with some minor tweaks and overall a very good gruppo. I don't believe the Speed Concept has a listed Stack/Reach yet so I don't know if they fit the same or not but I doubt it. What it would come down to in this or just about any range is how the bike fit's you, what kind of position you are able to get into on the bike, and how long you can maintain that position. Expert 1706 NoVA | Subject: RE: Trek Speed Concept From MKAH in the post under tri talk "Trek Speed Concept 7 Photo" I emailed that very question along with several other questions to SRAM recently and the dealer service department sent me the following reply: 4. Most of the technology in Apex is identical to the higher end groups, and the cost reduction compared to Rival comes from elimination of carbon and, in most cases, using paint instead of anodizing. Shifter internals are actually identical between Apex, Rival and Force, rear derailleur pulleys are still sealed bearings, etc. The Apex brake calipers actually have a centering screw that's not present on Rival, so there are some improvements to the group compared to Rival. Almost all the the differences are in finish quality, not design |

New user 147 | Subject: RE: Trek Speed Concept I was just at the LBS this weekend to look at the SC7.0 but also came across the P2. the P2 had the entry level gossamer and ultegra setup. Personally I'm not a Shimano fan but for barend shifting it doesn't bother me like the brifters. Both bikes were the same price. if I had to decide on a bike on that day, here are a few reasons why I preferred the Cervelo to the Trek: 1) weight (didn't weigh it, but the trek was clearly heavier, by a lot) 2) wider range of sizes (you may not fit the S > M > L choices) 3) ultegra a shade better than apex (when bumping up to rival, trek was quite a bit more expensive) >jerseywalt |

New user 78 Rochester NY | Subject: RE: Trek Speed Concept Try both out! From what my LBS told me, the geometry is slightly different for both bikes. They sell both Cervelo and Trek, willing to let me take out both. Trek fit better without swapping the standard components. I know that that isn't the end all be all, but I would rather fit in the natural geometry of the bike for slightly better handling/comfort. |

Where did you get the weights from? I think the medium SC is 17.59# and the P2 is 18.2#... 2. The adjust-ability on the Treks is one of their selling points... I have been fitted on one and the range is outstanding! 3. What standards did you use to determine comparison? Just want to determine if those are your opinions or factual statements... |

New user 147 | Subject: RE: Trek Speed Concept Scott, I was going to the LBS ready give the SC7 a try based on the positive reviews I've read here on BT. I've only tried the Transition and it really didn't fit correctly. In addition, as I've mentioned, I primarily ride SRAM and Campy, so it was a good opportunity to check out the SC7 with the Apex gruppo seated under the Rival lineup. Never really considered the P2 but it was hanging just above the Trek. To my surprise the weight of the P2 appeared to be considerably lighter than the SC7. I'll bring my fish scale with me this weekend when I head over there for a test ride and report back on the weights. As for the adjustability the of the bikes, in addition to the 2 cm increments for frame sizes, the salesperson also noted the unique seatpost design of Cervelos, which allows for a greater range of seat adjustments. After trying out the P2 and SC7, I'll be giving the some others a try like Felt and Fuji. BTW: is the Trek weight you provided your bike? I could not get a weight on the Trek from their website. if you have the SC7, how has it been built up? >jerseywalt |

I did not get on a Cervelo because I think the stack and reach is too long for my frame.. I REALLY wanted to like the Felt but when doing back to back rides on the Felt and SC... the SC just fit.... felt more natural and hence more comfortable... what I came away with the experience with is that fit really matters and it is truly amazing how two bikes sitting next to each other look so similar and ride so different... as for seat position... the SC has 8cm of fore/aft adjustment... Here is a review for P2 with weight... 18.6lb without pedals... Would be interested to see what you think when you have a chance to ride them... have fun! |
