New user 23 | Subject: RE: Sprint: 16 Week 3X Balanced My name is Shawna and I have never done a triathlon before, but I am hoping to complete my first sprint sometime this winter while I go to school at Montana State University (I think Bozeman has an indoor triathlon in winter ). I would like to do quite a few races for next summer and maybe even some Olympic distances. |

Keep an eye on this forum and start working on your plan when you are ready. If you find this forum doesn't get more active, perhaps you can look into the 13 week sprint plan. There seems to be a bit more activity in that forum. So when is this indoor sprint? If you want to use the 16 week plan, you may have to start pretty soon! |

New user 23 | Subject: RE: Sprint: 16 Week 3X Balanced Thank you! I am not sure of the date exactly but I actually have started the 16 week sprint plan, I will finish the first four weeks this Sunday and so far I am really enjoying it. I might just have to check into the 13 week plan anyway to meet other people training for a sprint. Thank you again for all your help |

18 | Subject: RE: Sprint: 16 Week 3X Balanced Hi my names Tony, Im training for my first spint Tri. Its been a goal of mine for a long time and am now planning on running my first in May of next year. Ive been looking for a good work out plan, and this looks pretty good. Swimming is where I need the most work. Prior to this Ive ran three 1/2 marathons. Im a veteran and a police officer, so a triathalon seems like a awesome challege. Looking foward to it. |

Member 8 Milton Keynes | Subject: RE: Sprint: 16 Week 3X Balanced Hello, my name is Fred, and a couple of weeks ago (just before my holiday), I decided I wanted a change in routine. I have for the last 25 years (oh, did I mention I am 48 ) been focussing on weight-training, but in my build-up to the holiday I included cardio (since training equipment is normally not very good at holiday resorts). But I am afraid I caught the bug, and have now (3 days ago) started on the above mentioned routine, which I think brings you in gently. My biggest hurdle will be the running, which (long time ago in Bethlehem, when I was a lot younger and lighter ) I used to be quite good at, but haven't done for 20 years. Aiming to do my first Sprint (for myself, not competitive ... I think) in April (when the water warms up), with the Olympic sheduled for July/August (depending on how the Sprint(s) are going) Big aim is for 2012, where I am aiming for a 1/2-Ironman (if I haven't got myself killed by that time) Looking forward to talk to some like-minded people (I intend to keep my log updated, so you can have a look and a laugh at my "old-poop" progress) Fred Edited by iofred 2010-09-27 5:42 AM |

Welcome to BT! You have tons of time to get yourself ready for the swim! What does your training look like now? Are you going to start following a training plan now or just stay in shape until you are 16 weeks away from the race? |

Welcome to BT and to the crazy world of triathlon training! The winter is a great time to work on your limiter (running) so that when you start your training plan for your sprint you will be in great shape! If you were a good runner before, you can be a good runner again. |

18 | Subject: RE: Sprint: 16 Week 3X Balanced For now Im going to just work in swimming and biking into my work out 2 to 3 days a week. I already run 3 days a week ( 3 to 5 miles each day) and do strength training 3 to 4 days a week in the gym. I was planning on following a tri specific plan starting around the new year. Any advise on this? |

Any advise on this? Your race is in May, so you will begin the Sprint plan some time in February. As long as you are confident that you can handle the first week of the 16 week Sprint plan, you can tackle your time from now until February any way you like. If you want to improve your swimming, though, it's probably best to give that more time than the running, biking, or strength. Since you are already a runner, you may want to consider dropping your run to 2x a week so you have more time to swim over the winter. Maintain what you are good at and improve what you aren't good at! |

New user 8 oro valley az | Subject: RE: Sprint: 16 Week 3X Balanced I'm Gerry. I am totally new to this tri stuff. I went to see one on saturday in Tucson. I have a strong base in cycling (about 200 mi a week on various club rides) and have swam for years. Untill about a month ago, i had never ran further than a quarter mile so i am workiong on building my running base. I plan to start the Sprint: 16 Week 3X Balanced plan on the first of november with a goal of doing my first tri in march. This plan fits my needs perfectly however I am curious that the plan seems to be directed at a particular event. Since i plan on trying to compete maybe each or every other weekend, how do I maintain the competitive level that I expect to have at the end of week 16 of this plan. thanks Gerry |

Member 8 Milton Keynes | Subject: RE: Sprint: 16 Week 3X Balanced Hi Gerry, looks like you at least are at a much better starting point than me, where you already have the cardio fitness under control. Enjoy the challenge, I have to admit, I am really impressed with the workout-routine, and the progress I made just in the first week alone. |
