Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've gotten blisters on the balls of both of my feet in the half and full races I did this summer. This hasn't happened on longer rides or runs in training. I'm wearing the same shoes and socks that I have worn in training. I tried using body glide on my feet and got the blisters anyway. Could it be because my feet absorb water during the swim? Any ideas as to how to prevent it? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Same thing has happened to me, so I'm hoping someone has the answer. I thought about the feet starting out water logged from the swim. My thought was during training on the runs I actually ran. Whereas at the HIM & IM I did this summer, I had to walk A LOT, and it seemed my feet moved around more in the shoe causing the friction which lead to blisters. That's the only thing I have come up with. Not sure how to fix that, except walk less! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Did you get water or fluid on your feet at aid stations? Are you socks wet? Are socks similar dampness to long runs? Do you pee while you were biking or running? I bought some Road Runner Sports brand wicking socks that work really at preventing blisters even when my socks are totally soaked. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() No, my socks weren't wet at all in the full. The problem seems to start on the bike and get worse on the run. I didn't pee on either the bike or run. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't think you should be getting blisters on the balls of your feet while cycling. Perhaps your shoes weren't strapped right or don't fit very well. edit:it could be the flex in the sole of the shoe. I have a buddy that gets hot spots if he doesn't use a really stiff cycling shoe. Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Since you don't think it is a wetness issue, I wonder if you are slightly changing your gait when you are tired doing a longer race ie HIM or IM? Do the blisters start on the bike or run? I used to get blisters only racing and never training when long for me was Olys. It was odd but I stopped getting them after a couple of years. |

![]() It's the dirt, sand and grit you pick up on your feet from coming out of the water until you put on your bike shoes. Then you pedal and rub your feet in basically sandpaper for the whole ride starting a mild blister which you make worse by running on it. Yes, I get these too. Sometimes to the point that the calluses entirely peel off after about a week. I'm still trying to work out some way to end up with no grit on my feet as I put them in the bike shoes. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I got them for two reasons on the balls of feet ONLY during races as well: I was running harder and faster during the race than during training. Fixed that by running my race pace in training sometimes. My laces were crap (some sort of speed laces) and running harder and faster was loosening up the shoe allowing a lot of movement = blisters. I went back to traditional laces and that fixed that issue. Hope you figure out the cause! Basically you need to figure out how the abbrasion is occuring. |

My feel move around a lot in my shoes, but they are the same size / style I have worn for a long time. But, I did switch to speed laces for the HIM & IM and I do feel my feel moving a lot. I'm going to try going back to regular laces and see if that takes care of it because blisters suck! Thanks! |

I had CHRONIC blister issues when I spent my entire 2nd season using speed laces, for training and racing. If I were to do it all over again and raced nothing but short course like sprints or Olympics, I would have a pair of shoes with traditional laces used for training, then a pair of shoes with speed laces meant for racing, AND I would make sure those speed laces kept my feet tight. |

New user![]() | ![]() i haven't done the transition things in triathlon (the first im i joined was relay im so i swam only) so swimming is solely swimming, running is only running blah blah.. but what i normally do, which i incorporated in the previous sports i had, was to put masking tape on blister prone areas of my feet. my shoes size is 7.5 and it's hard to get the right fit for me. if i get 8, i easily trip off so i get a 7. i dunno how much time it will consume for you to bind your feet on transition but when i run or hike, it works for me.
