Pre-race routine:

Got up and mixed some Nuun and ate a 1/2 a PB&J bagel with a small glass of chocolate milk. Checked the weather, grabbed my stuff and off the race.
Event warmup:

Parked right on site and went and checked in, went back to the car and got dressed, everything in all the right bags and went for a jog along the beach front. Went up and meet with the Donks before the race.
Run
  • 1h 13m 58s
  • 9.37 miles
  • 07m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Race plan was to run at LT from the start and try to hold on. I don't think I could have executed any better. Seperated from the Donks about 5 min before the race started to get my mind right, got towards the front and waited for the start. Was a couple of rows back at the start and had to fight thru some traffic at the start so I will be curious to see how close my Garmin time listed above is to my official time.....Official times are now up(1:14:05)so I lost a few tenths fighting through at the start. I am going to stick with my Garmin time!

Just ran my race from that point on, really felt the wind off the lake as we turned at Mile 8 to the Lakefront path and my splits show it. I don't know if that issue was mental or physical, but I really felt that headwind. Right hammy started to tighten up at about the same time and I knew I had some time in the bank and didn't want to start cramping so I decided to coast until the Mile 9 mark and then really finish. Never walked and really felt strong throughout the run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Clothing was a little warm put it worked fine. I had positioned myself properly based on my pace. Let the speed demons go! The Thursday bike ride really shredded my legs and I that may have some effect on the run, but it was training purposes only.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around the finish line and drank a couple of water bottles while the rest of the donks finished. Started to get really cold so went to get my bag for my sweatshirt and hat and stopped at the Milwaukee Ale house for finishing beers. Meet up with the rest of donks over a couple of race sponsered beers. What a great recovery drink!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Legs a little tight from Thursday but it was a training run!

Event comments:

Great race...I will be back. Glad I didn't do the costume thing, was a great training event for me.

Nice race!! And yea - that wind at mile 8 was definitely NOT a mental thing. It was really strong! The lady I was running next to hollered out "Oh, come ON!" when we first felt it.
