Total Time = 1h 21m
Overall Rank = 23/105
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 4/15
Pre-race routine:

Got up early by myself, ate some bran flakes.. Peanut butter with honey.. on toast..
Event warmup:

talked to people, warmed up my arms a little..
Swim
  • 12m 44s
  • 740 meters
  • 01m 43s / 100 meters
Comments:

The shallow end was like SUPER shallow maybe 2.5 feet of water and people were FLIP TURNING.. so I did too.. then I gave up.. it was faster to touch.

After one lap 5 girls hit the wall at once.. FIVE! i came out second of that pack and held one to the girl in front of mine's draft for a bit then past her.. I've decided my race breathing is every stroke. the last lap was super fast.

So I put myself in the fast heat so I was in the 2nd lane.. with some fast ladies, they all were the leaders and it felt good to be around the super fast girls.
What would you do differently?:

Um, i think I need better goggles. my new one STILL fog.. I am super happy I put myself in the correct heat this time. Its SOO much easier swimming at your own speed.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

They didn't tell us before the race how the T1 would work, I got really confused going through the "chute" it was dumb..
What would you do differently?:

check it out better before hand
Bike
  • 41m 14s
  • 19 kms
  • 27.65 km/hr
Comments:

at the very start on my way up the hill was this girl taking up the whole f-ing road swerving all over the place, I had to stay behuind her until the course opened up..

My chain came off in the last lap, had to stop for that.

Pace was iconsistant. but trying to maintain a high cadence was key I think.

What would you do differently?:

Ask that girl If I could pass earlier. not go so hard on the first lap. NOT swear when my chain came off..
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

UGH.. so this volunteer told me I had to go DOWN The chute.. like backwards to how I came up. but that was wrong so I was super confused and really annoyed. that I had to go down the chute and others didn't especially when other volunteers were like "are you just starting your bike?" NO! ugh.. but I needed to watch my temper a bit, I was already a bit frustrated from the chain.
What would you do differently?:

not listen to that guy.. go faster even though I was frazzled. have a gel in my shoes so I didn't have to reach into my bento box
Run
  • 26m 50s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 22s  min/km
Comments:

I had a hard time coming up to speed, I had a rabbit at first but once I past her it was hard going. I wish I had been motivated to push more. I think I copuld have gone faster.
What would you do differently?:

not have my timing chip caught in my socks.. OUCH.. eaten the gel sooner..
Post race
Warm down:

meh.. ate an orange, gave my parents a hug and talked to Jen and DAvid..

What limited your ability to perform faster:

umm lemme see.

inability to flip turn, that girl at the start at the bike, my chain falling off, the volunteer that sent me the wrong way and a lack of motivation on the run.

My head wasn't in the right place for this race. I had a hard time mentaly because I was so occupied with other life events before I started.

I also was more focused on seeing others on the course that I knew so I could chear them on.. But thats cool.. that I liked being slower for.. I just never reached "the zone" but It was SOO fun to have so many people to know and yell at. Leah Melissa and my SIL.. and some randoms I had talked to before hand.

I should have not bailied on thursday and friday's training.

Event comments:

Great t-shirts

dude, if the only thing you did was swear when your chain came off, then you've got nothing to worry about.  i probably would've knocked someone over.

Hey Laura,

You looked great out there and your results were fabulous! You deserve that massage. Especially with everything else that was going on yesterday.

I couldn't believe that hill coming out of T2. I think I would have died if they made me run up that. Alas, you were too fast and I couldn't catch you in any pictures.

Jen

PS I am going to do more drafting on Wednesday nights. Fast swim!

Hee, I nearly died when I saw that hill. You want me to what??!

Chances are I was one of the randoms you took time to shout words of encouragement to as you passed by on the run. We appreciate it!

Wow great swim times. actually great race all together even with your chain coming off!

a little tip I learnt with my goggles which I now swear by is to put a little shampoo in them and wash it out and they don't fog up at all.

That is such a shallow end of a pool! I have never seen anything like that.  I still can't get used to the idea of doing a tri in a pool.  Everything here is in the ocean or the river.  so doing it in a pool with a shallow end of only 2.5 feet would freak me out.  Well done on managing a few tumbleturns without killing yourself!!
