Just got an email with next year's Aflac Irongirl schedule and they moved the Atlanta race from June 30th to May 15th.  I think that's a great move - won't be so gosh darn hot!

Registration opens up on Dec 31st at 9:00 am.  If you want to do this race sign up as soon as registration opens as last year I think it sold out within a month max.

i think it actually sold out within the first couple of days last year. i remember i signed up about the 4th and it closed within a day or two after that. i plan on signing up the first day just to be sure.

i like the move to may as well. it will now be a nice opener to my season. i do hope they figure out a better swim course though. last year's crammed-in inverted U shape was awful.

So, I had always resisted signing up for Irongirl because of the "drop your bike off the day before" policy.  What a pain to drive to Lake Lanier 2x in a weekend.

Well, we stayed at the Legacy Lodge for a work function this weekend and it was lovely.  If the restaurant is decent (we didn't eat there), it might be really fun to stay up there to do the race and make a weekend of it.

And I believe you found the reason why they make you rack the bike the day before...economic impact.  Either way it does suck, how big is the field?  Surely it isn't 800 like the Lanier Lanier Sprint, so I'm sure morning traffic wouldn't be a reason to rack the bike a day before.  Thoughts?

Actually, I think the race tops out at 1000 athletes. Racking the day before is a PITA but it does make race morning smoother.

It is a pretty big race, over 1000 as Mindy says.  I didn't do it last year, but the year before just trying to park was a nightmare.  I can't imagine having to bring my bike the morning of.  It is a pain to go the day before, maybe Mrs. Brown Dog is onto something...

I volunteered at packet pickup last year, then used my volunteer t-shirt to get a close in parking spot race morning. It was great. Volunteer parking is across the street from transition. I'll probably do the same thing this year if I can.

The Lodge is nice but I think they price it a bit high and many times during the summer have a 2-night minimum. There are quite a few reasonably priced alternatives nearby. When I did the "My Next" at Lanier in June, my wife & I stayed at a Marriott (in a room with a small kitchenette) across from the Mall of Georgia for less than $100. The Mall of GA is about a 20 minute drive from Lake Lanier Islands.
