Subject: Paris to Ancaster bike race
Anyone else planning to do this bike race?  I always find myself doing lots of RUN 'training races' but never any bike races. This one look muddy and fun - I think I'll try it this year.

Yep, it's on my schedule.  Weather will decide whether I'm using the MTB or the CX bike.  But right now I'm leaning on the CX bike as most of the race is on gravel trails & double track and minimal single track stuff.

I've been thinking about doing it also. It would give me a good reason to get my mountain bike out and maybe use it this year.

I pulled the trigger and signed up last nite. I'm pumped about doing this race - I think it will be a nice change from Triathlon bike cycling.

I was thinking on doing this one as well.  However my mountain bike need a bit of TLC to be race ready.  Could this race be done on a hybrid (my daily commuter with no suspension) with off road tires?

Yes it could.  Alot of people use cyclocross bikes (road bikes w/ off road tires) for this race so I couldn't see why it couldn't be done with a hybrid.

.....cold and windy, but if it hold true with SW direction it'll be a nice tailwind.

I'm still using my cross bike even though I have a mountain bike.  Rail trails & gravel road will still be decent which is what comprises alot of the course.  I think I'll be doing alot of "port-a-bike" which is fine with me since my run fitness is way ahead of my bike fitness. Laughing

Forecast calls for freezing rain and winds of 45km/hr... And the ground will be soft & muddy after all this rain. Its going to be painful. I'm seriously considering bumping down to the 35km race and putting some time in on my trainer later in the nite.

I see you managed to make the race...Congrats!

 

I totally panzied out.  Got up at 7AM, looked at the weather site....2C, wind gusts 60 kph, -5C windchill.  I went back to bed.  I can do 60k, I don't need to prove to myself I can do it. Laughing  I just couldn't see it being very enjoyable in those conditions.  Judging by how many registered and how many actually raced, I wasn't the only one that DNS...lol.

That was quite the adventure. The weather was unbelivable - the wind was howling and it was snowing for about an hour.  The mud was really deep and thick - I'm talking WW1 trench quality. My bike really took a beating. My cranks won't free spin anymore - I suspect they're full of mud inside. I was a lot slower than I though but considering the conditions I'm just glad I finished.

I already skipped one race this season due to weather (Burlington Chily 1/2M) so I couldn't bring myself to lose out on two entry fees.Laughing
