With three growing boys in the house, we go through a lot of dairy products.  A Royal Crest box is on our doorstep currently, and has been a few times in the past, but they are expensive and the quality varies, apparently because they contract out to different farms for the product.
Longmont Dairy left some samples this week, and I thought the product quality was very good and their prices seem a little better.  They also have their own farm, so in theory should be more consistent, and also they use glass instead of plastic bottles which is appealing.
So I'm curious, what are BT's thoughts on the topic? Anyone used both, have an opinion, or any other options to consider?

I know a lot of people in my neighborhood use Royal Crest. Personally, we only drink soymilk, so we've never gone down the Royal Crest road. I say give the Littleton place a try!

We have used Royal Crest for the past 5 years and have been happy. We have not noticed the differences in quality that you mention. The only issue we have had in that 5 years is we had a driver who never got our order right. He was replaced pretty quickly though. I just looked at prices, and from what I can tell from our last bill, the prices are almost identical between the two. The one thing I really like is the ability to change the order on the fly. We very rarely have the same order, so this is huge for us.

I have tasted both companies product and they both have some good quality milk at some premium prices.  Taste is subjective though so if you feel that Longmont's tastes better to you and it is no more expensive then you have your answer.

How much does Royal Crest come out to for a gallon or half gallon?   We've been doing oragnic for years, but we just buy from the supermarket.

As much as is fesible, we try to buy alot of organic/natural foods.   Definitely dairy, chicken, eggs, beef, and some vegies.

We use Longmont Dairy.  My wife liked the glass bottles better, and they were a little cheaper.  Royal Crest was also super pushy trying to get us to use them (including starting to deliver milk before we even signed up with them.)

The quality of the samples both delivered was equivalent with Longmont maybe a bit better.

We have friends that use Diamond D Dairy.  They are the lowest price of any we've seen around.  I'd use them but they have plastic bottles.

The glass bottles are a little hard for young kids to handle though.

Note that none of these Dairies are "certified organic".

But we definitely notice a quality difference between the regular milk you get at the store.

We used Longmont Dairy when we lived in Longmont and loved it.  We don't order now that it's just the two of us but if we did then we'd probably go with them.

I also use Longmont Dairy and have been very happy with them.  I also like the glass bottles!

To whoever asked about cost, a 1/2 gallon is about $2.50ish

We had tried the supermarket organic for a while, and also the Littleton Dairy before this...store-bought had a similar taste inconsistency that we saw in RC, and while the Littleton Dairy was well priced, we lost that value driving there every week. And even though Royal Crest & Littleton have 'immediate re-use' containers, they're still petrochem-based so the glass containers are really appealing.
Thanks for the feedback everyone!
