Subject: Music Preference
This is totally off topic but I was just curious what people like to listen to on their headphones during a workout if anythng. I have a pretty eclectic taste in music but during a workout there is just something about Metallica that gets me going. (My MP3 player is loaded with it along with some White Zombie, Pink Floyd, Motley Crue...mostly music I don't listen to outside my workouts!) My darling husband burned a pretty good CD form me as a surprise and had it loaded in the car the morning I took off for my first tri. It really made up for the fact that he woke me up 45 minutes late.

For what it's worth I am pretty into jam bands and chilling before (or during) most of life's events. I really find it fulfilling to run or bike to some Marley or Ben Harper and focus on things that matter outside of myself. I really try to focus on the things that matter outside of the immediate pain or discomfort that I am dealing with at the time. I guess you could say it is a transcendental state of being. I am sure it is a pretty idealistic or hippie view point on things, but hey~ it works for me!

Best of luck (and for the record I have never smoked weed)!

I never ever listen to music while training ... too distracting.  I do, however, love classical music, especially Baroque, including opera.

I have a "running" playlist on my ipod that is comprised of songs that have 120 beats per minutes. Ok, it's not as precise as that. Just a collection of fast tempo songs, from Spice Girl to Eminem to Britney to Disco!!! Disco never dies!!!

I have the most eccentric collection of music on my Oakley thumps, let's see, Metallica, Paul Oakenfold, The Cranberries, Coldplay, Motorhead, techno and house music and Janes Addiction just to name a few.

right now my mp3 player has some tracks of The Band's Last Waltz box set that I've really been liking lately.. (the DVD is AMAZING if anyone feels inclined to check it out)

Some tracks from a Phil Lesh & Friends show at mardi gras with Chris Robinson.

Some music from the Rocky Soundtrack.. (although it gets me too fired up sometimes)

also some Bob Dylan, Phish, The Black Crowes, Rober Earl Keen and Joe Cocker..

I got the smallest, cheapest mp3 player I could find and loaded up a bunch of techno and dance music and the soundtrack to Run Lola Run. I like the hard driving beat and energy (an minimal lyrics) of this kind of music for running on the treadmill. Only use it at the gym though.

Jeez, how could I have forgotten about The Crowes!!!

gotta have some Crowes.

My wife is actually the big Crowes fan in the house. We've gone to see them three times since they came back on tour and are probably going to see them again at Austin City Limits.

Anybody else gonna be there? the line up is freaking amazing!

So newbiedoo, what is the "smallest cheapest" MP3 player? I hate to say it, but I am still running with cassettes in my Walkman! I see folks at the gym with MP3s and they look so convenient. To be honest, I'm not even sure how they work. I'm computer competent, but I have just not gotten into the whole music-on-computer thing.

I only listen to music while running. For some reason, the other sports are fine without, but music is a real motivator for me. I listen to great mix tapes that feature everything from techno to big band to 80s to disco to 90s Seattle sound to folk to current stuff. And, of course, lots of Springsteen. My tastes are extremely eclectic.

It's the: Creative MP3

Ok, I'm not pushing a product or anything, but this little guy has been very satisfatory. Got it on Amazon and at the time it was $79.00. They've upped the price (added some features), but it's still pretty cheap.

The trick with maximizing uploads is to use the files. But it's very easy to use - just plug it in the back of your tower. I've dropped this little guy a lot too--one time it fell out of my pocket onto the treadmill and went flying back into the wall. Still worked. Goes through batteries pretty fast, but I can live with that. The earphones that come with it are awful (aren't they always?) so you'll have to go find some better ones.

Have fun shopping!

Thanks for mentioning The Boss....you inspired me!

I do love a good disco beat...and yeah, I love the techno stuff too. I have actually given up the headphones while running outside but if I am on the treadmill it's the only way I can get through it. I hate running on the treadmill.

Rock on people!

Ministry, NIN, KMFDM, Sneaker Pimps, Rob Zombie, Sven Vath, Pantera. Some other miscellaneaous stuff. Sometimes for longer runs I will throw some Zeppelin on there too.

You are scaring me now.  But looks like you have a higher grade bike of the same model.  Oh BTW, I have that same Tyr silicone cap.
