The Original  7834      Raleigh/Durham |  Subject: Job RelocationOk- I am looking into furthering my career, which most likely will involve relocation. The 2 places I am interested in relocating to are Raleigh, NC and Denver, CO. I would like your votes as to which place you think I should move to. Summers in NC are great and you'll have the beach somewhat nearby, and Appalacians for riding when you want to get away 3. visiting GA won't be a major issue it's down the road 4. You are a triathlete, so snow could play havoc with your training on a road bike 5. Have you considered Charlotte, NC Spent a lot of time there, great city, GO Panthers 6. last but not least your other thread mentioned finding a tri-guy, well colleges are nearby, fit, ab riddled college guys, you could be on a winner. (footnote- will depend on your attitude to college guys) I loved my time in NC, as it reminded me of Queensland, Australia, where I grew up. warm all year round, and great for training. good luck deciding. |

Personally, I'd go with Denver - the climate there is ideal for outdoor sports year-round. If you choose Raleigh, I can put you in touch with friends in the area. |

But I honestly think it'll be easier for me to find a job in Raleigh- I work in pharmaceuticals and RTP is right up my alley. CO would be great- I might miss the ocean though CO would be colder but I could work on skiing abilities. BUt in CO I would be able to wear some nice wool J. Crew sweaters in winter- I love sweaters!!! Hmmm...decisions. I'll have to wait and see what happens with the J-O-B! |

Downunderman is right that there are a ton of colleges in the area and Research Triangle Park is there with lots of folks. I wasn't single while I was there, so I'm not sure about that angle. My single friends complained, but most of them are in relationships now, so.... It's a very friendly place, good weather for the most part and pretty green for a city. And there are lots of MTB trails if you want to do that (and a very cool women's MTB club-- Girlz Riding in Dirt-- www.girlsridingindirt.com) Nearest beach is 1 1/2 hours away. |

We made an injectable bST hormone for cows to increase milk production. They give us free samples every now and then to try- lol! |

I don't want to live in a college city (been there did that- I lived in E. Lasning, MI for 2 years after I graduated from college- it was fun, but got old) Raleigh would kind of be more like a college town, and I don't want that. So now I'm leaning more toward CO. I want to live somewhere where young-professionsal who love to do tri's and eat burritos dominate the entire area. |

We rank in the top 5 states in personal income, first in health insurance, men's health ranks us in the top five cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) for healthy activity and gave us an A for our effort, it's only too cold to survive 1 week a year, that's where it's handy to have a tredmill, we currently have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, and our education system is in the top as well. Heat and humidity in Raleigh; heat and strong sun in Denver. Fall, both are nice. Winter? I'd have to say that is a wash as well. The odd blizzard, but lots of nice days in between in both locations. Guess it comes down to your feelings about NASCAR vs Rodeo....Broncos vs Panthers. You get the idea. Good luck. |

That snow thing- it really does not snow much on the flats - they get some doosies, but it never stays long. Good social opertunities too. Cap hill, lo do, Highlands.... all good neighborhoods for young people. Bike rides - flats or hills or mountains? take your pick Swimming - the city and county of Denver have a great (and really cheap) parks and recreation gyms with pools. Wash park, La Familia..... Running - everyone does it. I recently hit Denver for a weekend and saw a lady running. Since I have been in a non running environment for so long, my first impulse was to look for someone chasing her and offer help! |
