Subject: Thanks to all!

Just wanted to thank everyone on this forum who's offered advice, moral support, help in turning off panic buttons, etc. esp. as relates to bikes, Singapore, and the Bintan tri. Esp. Yanti! (Uh...does half of Indonesia share your name? I swear I met ten Yantis last weekend.) Thanks to your help I have gone from a bikeless, confused swimmer/runner to someone who at least has a road bike and can sort of ride it (at least on the flats) in tris.

My buddies, and I did manage to make it Bintan from Saigon with bikes, bodies and minds intact. I managed 4th overall despite what has to be one of the less glorious bike legs on record! (Race report is now up; kind of an epic novel.) It was a great weekend and a super one-year "anniversary" of my entry to the crazy world of triathlon.

Congrats to Robbo and anyone else who finished that hot suffer-fest. Hope to see you at races around the region. I'm giving Bintan a miss next year; hope to do Bali instead!

SUPER CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

4th OA ... you are a monster! I shall be off to read your race report ...

Yes. Pretty much every Indonesian girl is named Yanti. I loved being in the U.S. because there it was an 'unusual' name.

Actually Bintan was my second Oly. I did Vietnam Tri last fall with a mountain bike. Can't remember what I placed. 9th? 11th?  I think I maybe was ahead of 13 out of 136 total people on the bike. As for Bali, I concede the swim in advance!  You would have beaten the guys at Bintan.Guessing the weak swimmers did not enjoy fighting the current into shore, twice.  Everyone was complaining afterwards about the long swim--but not me. Did the math--this was one case where the swim DID really matter!
