Sunny
Total Time = 1h 30m 16s
Overall Rank = 513/694
Age Group = F40-44
Age Group Rank = 20/30
Pre-race routine:

Boy, 4:30 seemed really early this morning...it was dark and a little chilly outside...hhhmmm...why do we do this! Anyway, I had a bowl of oatmeal and a slice of multi grain toast with jelly...plus gatorade...bi\oth the dogs were up but thankfully the kids stayed sleeping while my husband and I left. Checked the tires as I had a full flat the evening before (Yay, I changed my first tire). It was a beautiful morning to watch the sun come up on our way into Boston. AS luck would have it Mass Highway decided to close the east bound Mass Pike before our exit. This put us off somewhere near Copley and we had to find our way to the World Trade Center...finally found it with about 50 minutes to go...
Event warmup:

No chance to swim as it was a deep water start. Since I got there a little late I just walked around a bit after setting up transition.
Swim
  • 15m 48s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

I do like to swim. This was a really cold swim...but I still liked it even though my kids had completely psyched me out for jellyfish and sharks...that will teach me to listen to 6 and 9 year olds!

The wave was REALLY large and there was massive flailing of arms and legs. I just tried to stay calm and find a nice hole to swim in. I didn't swallow much water and I felt pretty strong.
What would you do differently?:

Get up closer to the front for the start.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 time is included in overall bike time. I took my time so I could rinse my mouth with clean water and have a gel. I felt pretty good about the transition. The transition area was really crowded so there was not alot of space to spread stuff out...but it was OK.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on getting onto the bike faster. Also, not taking as much time for water and gel...
Bike
  • 44m 3s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 16.89 mile/hr
Comments:

I came off the bike and I felt I had done an awesome job. I think my actual time to do the bike was about 38 minutes ( I looked at my watch when I dismounted)...there was a long way into transition and I think I lost some time there. Overall I felt REALLY good off the bike. I had adjusted my pedals and I didn't feel any tingling or numbness at all.
What would you do differently?:

Keep riding to get stronger and faster
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T2 time is in with the run time. I think I did pretty well. This is always a good transition for me.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster
Run
  • 30m 25s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Well, I thought I had a good run. I really kept moving through the whole thing and I felt great through it all. I was a little surprised that they had changed the course from last year. So it was two loops. I think alot of people didn't know it and only did one loop...it was a little confusing.
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on endurance and the "mental game"
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around the fishing pier with my husband before heading home to see how the 6 and 9 year old had survived with the 20 year old at home...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing

Event comments:

I like this race. There is a huge sense of camaraderie among the athletes. I really thought I did alot better this year than last year. I felt so much stronger and I really felt I had improved alot...but I only beat last years time by 40 seconds (and I thought I had by 10 minutes!) So I was a bit disappointed in the "tale of the tape" but I was totally happy about my physical ability to complete this race feeling strong. Plus it was the third race in as many weeks for me. I think this race, the last of this season was a great way to end 2005. I have learned SO much from myself, my friends and my family and I look forward to next year and the fun I (we) will all have!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Awesome race, but most important good to know that your bike shoes didn't bothered you this time, and it showed with your solid run. So now what???  You can't just wait till next May... maybe start some training for a marathon for Dec or Jan

Nice Race Laura!!

With the route change did the distances change? You were fast on the bike...with the long T1 in there you don't get an accurate bike time. The swim is mentally tough...deep water start...but you did super and were very speedy!!

Great time on the run....faster than the last two weeks, right?

Yes...you need to do Try the Tri on the 17th....all that training and one more race...until the long MA winter.

Keep up the good work!!

Nice race, Laura.  Too bad I didn't see you.

I guess messed up the run.... did only 1 loop, following the crowd of fast people.  It's only now reading your report that I know it's a 2-loop.  stupid, stupid, stupid.....

Great job!   I'm scared to swim in Boston Harbor.

Are thinking about the Try the Tri in Bristol RI on the 17th?  I've been thinking about doing that one but haven't registered yet.

So glad you got that pedal numbness taken care of! You had a great race, I am dying to do this one, but have been obligated to other out of town stuff that weekend!

How lucky for you to race 3 races in 3 weeks? Even luckier - that you got forced off the Pike earlier and still figured out where you were!!

Sounds like you had an overall satisfying race season....hope to see you at the off-season sometime at a BT get-together.

If it's early enough in the fall, I'd love to see ya roll up on your Harley (yes I noticed your sweatshirt at Cranberry! )
