Swim
Comments: Longest OWS swim to date and I'm very disappointed in the time. I know I'm a slow swimmer but I felt like I sighted better than my last Oly and felt like I swam more consistently. I never really got gassed so I must not have pushed hard enough. What would you do differently?: practice more Transition 1
Comments: pretty good transition. Had a little trouble with my balance while I put my shoes on standing. Kind of demotivating having my bike be the last one on the rack. I didn't let it get to me though. More people to pass. Bike
Comments: I was 0.7 mph on this course than I was last year (sprint has the same/course distance) and still only 17/22 in my age group. I was happy with my time. What would you do differently?: wear my aero helmet? I could have hammered a little harder. Transition 2
Comments: I shoot for 1 minute in T2 so a little slow. Run
Comments: The first two miles I thought my usual thought of "why do I do things this unpleasant". Then a funny thing happened around mile three. I passed a couple people in my age group. That was very motivating as I could hear them trying to run me down. Good thing I caught them too since I would have been DFL in my AG if I didn't :-) I tried a new water strategy in this race. I didn't drink anything until the second half. I think it worked because it was a cool day. My shoulders started feeling achy by mile three. I think I was close to cramping. What would you do differently?: Faster than the run in my first Oly (this was my second). I'm not a fast runner. Post race
Warm down: Drank some water and had some orange slices. I felt fine. I obviously didn't leave it all on the course. What limited your ability to perform faster: Me Event comments: Excellent race venue, very well run and a nice course. I knew I wouldn't rank well at this race because it is a qualifying race for age group nationals and people faster than me show up. I did the sprint here last year and did place well because all the fast people did the Olympic. My time today would have landed me at 3/11 in my first Oly (in May). I would have needed a 2:40 to be top half today and I'm just not that fast. With more training I should be able to get there. Last updated: 2011-03-19 12:00 AM

Met up with Annie and Ryan the night before the race for some deep dish pizza and a couple beers. Got up at 4:30 am, ate a yogurt and banana then headed to the race site. Got to park very near transition so that was nice.
Jogged a little to see how my foot was feeling and it was good!
