Subject: What is going to be sacrificed for Fuel
Having seen fuel prices lately, I started to think of what I may have to sacrifice around the house.
So what do you see going from your immediate budget? i.e. Holidays, new car, trading in a more expensive car to run, new computer, God forbid tri stuff or worse beer.

Has it made any differences already? We here in Australia, are paying $1.40 AUS ($1.15 US) a litre or quarter of a gallon. When I was in NC in 1998, it was 75cents a gallon and we managed to drive 600 miles for about $30 makes for a cheap holiday.

Right now, gas from the non-brand-name gas place around the corner from my house is $3.21 for the lowest octane.

'Fortunately' I started biking to work about three weeks prior to the Katrina Disaster, and I use my car for little else (just grocery shopping). I figure that I'm swapping good biker's legs for an empty wallet.

I really feel sorry for those poor schmoes who have a 40 mile commute or something!

I actually contemplated selling my car this morning, and getting a better bike. Do you think that's insane??

But to answer your question, I think that I may give up my YMCA membership. Since I've moved into longer distance racing, I rarely use the Y anymore. So that's another 40 bucks a month I can spend on fossil fuels!

We had the "ride lots" challenge...maybe we need the "drive less" challenge. Commute by bike, carpool, mass transit, have stuff delivered, shop online, walk...lots of alternatives

I think I am spending about $20 more on gas per month than before. Can't think of anything I can cut back on to fund higher fuel cost without seriously cut back on standard of living. I have already given up Starbucks to fund my masters swim class. Dine out less often I suppose. No more fancy bottled drinks (e.g. Snapple) and drink tap instead.

Although we are paying approximately 5CND per gallon I can't give up much more.  I sold my car last year and we are now a one car family.  I either take my bike to get where I want to go or I walk; in the winter I take the bus or walk.  My wife is the one who uses the car mostly.
