Nags Head,
Subject: Leave Of Absence
Well the Pirate will be taking a leave of absence from BT for a while. I have pulled funds from savings and gathered some monetary donations and will be leaving for Mississippi/Louisiana on Sun. 11th, 2005. Thru some connections I have been able to secure a contract and will be in charge of setting up temporary housing ie. travel trailers for those in need. I don't know about internet connections but if I can I will post pictures (of course) of the areas and people we will be helping. If anybody wants to keep in touch PM me and I will forward cell numbers. It has been a tough decision to make, because of leaving family and friends but through prayer and alot of support I decided that I can make a difference for those less fortunate. I will still try to train, run of course, bike maybe, swim I doubt it. Everyone take care and good luck on reaching your goals, and remember the Pirate is always near and probably with a camera

That is so awesome- your help is well needed.  Will you be taking any donations?  Let me know if there's anything I can donate- I would love to help!  You'll be missed!  We'll have to write you off the island!

Make all donations thru The Red Cross or other reputable organizations, aside from that the FEMA contract that I got handles everything else. I just handle my living expenses and paying the people (hopefully local) to help set-up the trailers. It will be exciting, fun, depressing but incredibly rewarding.

How did you get hooked up with this?  I'm curious.

Congressman Norwood is a personal friend of my parents and he helped with the contacts. There is a gentleman by the name of William Ulm and he runs MLU Services out of Athens. He helped with the logistics and temporary housing issues. His company is quite impressive you can see all what they do on their web site http://www.mluservices.com/.This company specializes in Disaster Services.
