S-31'
T1-2'
B-68'
T2-2'
R-46'
Total-149' or 2 Hours 29 Minutes

Actual: Well, I ended up beating my predicted times substantially, especially the swim and the run. The bike was exactly as predicted.

Event warmup:

Ocean swimming to loosen up, said a prayer for safety and tried to stay calm and relaxed.
Swim
  • 28m 9s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt strong and controlled, although my friggin heart rate was quite elevated. Navigation was ok, but the waves were rolling pretty high on the last half of the course.
What would you do differently?:

Can't think of anything
Transition 1
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

All good except had trouble getting my feet into my bike shoes after I had transitioned out of T1.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting my feet swifty and smoothly into my bike shoes when I have escaped T1!

Bike
  • 1h 07m 50s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.98 mile/hr
Comments:

I kept a high cadence (98 average). I didn't feel I could have gone any harder at all on this course without blowing up!
What would you do differently?:

Try not to LAUNCH my water bottles on the dang bumps!
Transition 2
  • 02m 40s
Comments:

Great transition, although we had a LONG WAY to run once in T2...
What would you do differently?:

Not a thing, I did this fast.
Run
  • 43m 54s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran with quick cadence and light feet. Hooked up with a 20 year old at mile 4 and told him not to let an "old man" kick his ass...He laughed and hung with me until mile 5, then I left him
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I laid it all out there at this event.
Post race
Warm down:

Went to the beer tent and hung out, but stayed away from the brew and ate and drank good stuff!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

With my current ability, I believe I gave it a great effort and couldn't have done much different to go any faster.

Event comments:

The Los Angeles Triathlon is a very well run event. The police officers did a stellar job keeping traffic away from the runners/bikers. This is a premiere triathlon and a pleasure to have participated in it. I am pretty happy to have finished #2 in my AG considering I am in my first year of this sport!

Nice race Larry. Your T2 time is amazing given how far you had to run to get to your bike rack in the transition area. Great race!
