Subject: Kids Tri events

What events are there for kids?  My 7 year old daughter has been inspired by her dad doing events this year and at least for the moment wants to try an event next year.

From what I can see so far, Multisport has the Splash and Dash the Woodstock weekend and Kids of Steel at Lakeside.

Anything else?

Already trying to plan out the 2012 schedule.

I would recommend the TriKids events run by Tara and Brad Melville of Run Well Events. They are very inclusive have a very high participation level and are focused on fun rather than hugely competetive. Also all the swims take place in pools.

These are run as a series and held all over Ontario - unfortunately the last event of the year was held last Saturday in Milton but there is plenty of time to train for next year!?

Kids of Steel is another option - tend to be a little more serious and some include OWS - eg Lakeside

If you're in  or close to Hamilton a great kids tri club for the more serious athlete is the Hamilton Hammerheads

The fun aspect is key.

This will have to be a next year thing as she is still working on her balance without the training wheels (we just don't get her on her bike enough)

I think she got the fact that tri's can be fun after I did the mini at Mine over Matter.  It was a small event (33 people) so she could be right there cheering for me as I came into an out of transition.

Lots of the kids at the Tri Kids events are competing with training wheels - If the weather is good the kids seem to have a blast!

Some have already mentioned our Woodstock Splash and Dash and Lakeside (which is Triathlon Kids) both have participation medals and no awards. These races are about fun and participation.

I would highly recommend the Tri Kids series produced by Tara and Brad Melville. The races are extremely well run and the Melvilles make sure it is all about FUN. The focus on the kids, the attention to detail and the professionalism makes this the best children's series in Canada! It is also now a national series with a race in Kelowna, BC and another new west coast race being announced soon.

Leamington Tomatoman is awesome!! It's a KOS event but it's a pool swim. The event is really well organized and a great atmosphere!!  I try to make sure it's part of my race season every year.
