The Original  7834      Raleigh/Durham |  Subject: Is anyone else annoyed by this?Ok- so I'm just venting. I had it when people schedule meeting son a Friday afternoon. Like it couldn't happen earlier in the week? I had a meeting from 1-2 today with the boss to discuss WIGS- Wildly Important Goals. It's so dumb. Then a coworker of mine schedules a meeting from 2-3pm right after the WIG meeting about reivising a procedure. I can't count the number of times she said "umm" within that hour, and my other coworker sat there smacking on her gum. I was so annoyed. I think I need to go home and nap. I am really tired and cranky today. I am not motivated to do anything today, neverthless sit in the same conference room with the same annoying coworkers for 2 hours on a Friday afternoon. My rule of thumb for Friday afternoons is "Something had better be on fire." The primary exception to that is when we're supporting someone who's on location in Asia and they need an answer... there's already an inherent overnight delay, they're halfway around the world away from home, and they deserve an hour or so of our time to keep them productive. Fortunately, few of my coworkers are annoying, and most are very averse to unnecessary meetings. I count myself fortunate. |

I do generally leave early on Fridays, but the rest of the week is long hours and high stress. In all honesty, I do find my self wondering why I'm not tending bar in the British Virgin Islands. Does anybody know if the Soggy Dollar is hiring? Bill |

So to see her talking about a Friday WIG meeting made me very glad I had moved on. But then yesterday, I got to sit through my very own WIG meeting. But, despite working in an environment where Outlook has the final words on avaialbility, I still get the phone calls at 8:00am on Friday mornings: "Hi, Joe, yeah, I know your calendar says you're busy at 4:30 today, but could you..." I once walked into a auto garage to pick up my car, and a dingy, rotted-out wooden sign hung over the cash register (which didn't work any more) and read: "A f*ck up on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on ours." So for all those folks who get to Friday and *suddenly need* to have a meeting at the end of the day, I wish I could hang that sign in my office ;-) |
