Custom Competition
70F / 21C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 53m 53s
Overall Rank = 199/239
Age Group = 40/44
Age Group Rank = 0/
Event warmup:

Ride my bike from the parking area, a little stretching.
Swim
  • 29m 52s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

Shallow, clear water, could see the bottom entire course. Aleviated some prerace concern. I started at the back thinking I would hold up some other swimmers. Started on the left end of my wave when the direction of the bouy was to the right. Didn't get into a good rhythm until I rounded the bouy. Exit was ok no "drunken sailor" effect some have alluded to. Overall I was pleased with my time.
What would you do differently?:

Pick a better starting spot, swim harder. I didn't really push it.
Transition 1
  • 02m 52s
Comments:

Struggled with gloves and decided to drop them.
What would you do differently?:

Lay out wasn't very well thought out. Practice transitions with different layouts.
Bike
  • 1h 15m 11s
  • 25 miles
  • 19.95 mile/hr
Comments:

I figured the bike leg would be my best event so I laid it all out. It felt like a race; passing, being passed, then catching up and passing again. It was the fastest perceived hour ever, the course was over before I knew it.
What would you do differently?:

I left it all out on the bike course, save something for the run.
Transition 2
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

Had to dismount a short distance from the transition area, kept shoes on and walked in cleats to my spot.
Run
  • 1h 03m 32s
  • 6 miles
  • 10m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Not good, Quads were cramping last mile of the bike so I knew I was in for a difficult run. Had to walk most of the hills. On lap two left ham started to cramp. Got lots of encouragement to keep going by the folks I passed on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Train on hills, longer run brick workouts. Save some off the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch a little. Eat, drink, pack my stuff, ride to the parking lot.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not getting into a rhythm soon enough in the water.
Going to hard on the bike and not leaving enough for the run for my current fitness level.

Event comments:

The pre-race meeting was difficult to hear, and there was some confusion when the swim waves were being organized. The weather conditions could not have been better.
Times are unofficial, they weren't posted before I left.
Official times and rank will be posted as soon as I get them

Nice going!! You probably passed me on the bike... Oh yeah, and on the run too!!!

You've got some great races lined up in the LG area... I did Lake Geneva last year, and it was awesome... VERY hilly. (Both in the bike and the run).

Good Job!

Thanks LW, your too kind, but I only recall passing two people on the run, and neither look like your photo.
I did have a blast on the bike. I've been riding seriously on and off for more than 20 years so it was my best event. I'm going to bust my rear in the water and on the run and try to cut my time down below 2:40 for the next two races.
Are you doing LG again this year?

No... even though I wanted to "tri" to .... I'm doing my first Olympic in the end of August, (Chicago) and that is going to be the capstone of my second triathlon season! I've got 4 races this season, 2 down and 2 to go. I may still make the trip up North to spectate, though. I really liked that race....even though it was a bit disorganized because it was pouring rain... I loved it... Every last minute! And I wear my cheesy sweatshirt with pride!!!!

Good LUCK!

LW
