Yeah but with a wetsuit. Big deal.

Kidding. That's really cool, and check out how much money he raised. Very excellent...

Sharks don't like kids in wetsuits.

Actually, there was a nine-year-old kid that did the Alcatraz Sharkfest swim this year, without a wetsuit:

yikes.  53 something degree water.  No thanks.  Ya know, they say kids handle hypothermia better than adults.  I ain't a kid anymore.

I saw this on the news last night.  Very cool.  I have an nephew that will turn 9 in January.  He is very athletic in a baseball, football, basketball kind of way, but I just can't see him even contemplating something like that.  Again, very cool.

What's really cool about this is the mental fortitude it takes to do this swim. I'm sure the kid can  swim 1.4 miles (approx 2500 yards) in a pool but to do it in the ocean takes a great deal of courage and determination.

Let's not forget to give thumbs up to the supportive parents!  It would still be scary, no matter how good a swimmer your kid is.  I'm curious about the initial conversation that took place...."hey Mom and Dad, I have this idea....."

Yeah, I was gonna post this, I remember the announcer calling him up pre-race.   Great time in the swim too.

Not to diminish the swim at all (cuz it's not that easy, and at NINE??) but our local paper said this kid was the youngest blah blah blah, clearly he isn't.  This is like Jake the dog, papers all said first dog to do it, when that wasn't true either.

At any rate, strong kid, and for a very god cause as well.
