Bay State Marathon

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 58m 33s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 50-59F
Age Group Rank = 7/31
Pre-race routine:

thought I had plenty of time- but didn't get to the race site until ? 7:30?- easy parking & registration, BR line not too bad- so was still ok.
Choked down 1/2 of intended breakfast at home- coffee & tunes for the road...sipped some powerade....
once there looked for triagain & c2fd ....c2fd found me at the arena & we did our last minute strietches & wardrobe adjustments....
Event warmup:

stretch & try to keep moving -talk w/ c2fd...calm those pre race jitters....

Comments:

Easy pace 1st mile to warm up- gradual increase- really just enjoying the day & the moment- felt good for the first loop- then started to feel it- hr too high really the whole race- not sure why. Used gels x2, maybe 3 water/g-ade stops? Last 2 miles were tough- Thanks to c2fd- who really pulled me along -was able to meet goal of sub 2hrs for 1st 1/2.
What would you do differently?:

More long runs. Hydrate the day before. Stick to usual of REST the day before- this time I did a short t-mill run less than 24 hrs before race-
and 10k on Monday- probably for me not the best prep for this distance.
Wardrobe Malfunction- Too many clothes. I finally realize that it has to be below 40 for me to need more than a simple layer of shorts & a top !
Also think I will lose the HRM for races- I ignore it pretty much anyway !
Post race
Warm down:

after a few minutes of ferverently hoping not to throw up on c2fd- nausea passed & was able to put on a warm layer have some water, stretch a bit & have a bite to eat.!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

hmmm.....

Event comments:

This is a nice course- and a good set up for ease for racers- getting to the site, the venue itself, parking, post race shower & food. Also fun to watch the marathon once in.

For me- this was a benchmark - Thanks to c2fd 's "coaching"reached goal of sub-2 - now have a good "start point" to improve upon. New lessons learned- as always-! Had a great day.

Sub 2 hr for first 1/2 mary!!!! freakin' running machine!!! You looked smooth and at ease throughout the race.

Of course, you are being modest by leaving out the fact that you came in the TOP 10 of your age group!!! 7 out of 31.That is TOP OF THE PACK!!  a few minutes shaved next year and you'll be in the top 3!

Sub 2 on your 1st half is fantastic (not to mention racing a 10k less than a week before). If this is what you produce when you struggle at the end of race, it is going to be scary to see your times when you "feel good"

Truly a great job.
