Expert 707 Kansas | Subject: Podcast... Anyone? I’ve turned into a big fan of listening to Podcast everything from political talk to triathlon talk. Listed below are some of my fav’s… If you have a Podcast or you listen to one I would be interested in knowing what you listen to. If you need a tri fix and your sitting at work or you have little extra room on your mp3 player, Podcast are a great source of information and motivator. Eric |

Extreme Veteran 531 Boston, MA | Subject: RE: Podcast... Anyone? I am a huge fan of all the podcasts listed above. A few others that i subsribe to and would highly reccomend:
YOGAmazing is a video podcast that goes through different yoga routines for strength/flexibility/legs/shoulders the whole deal... sure beats paying for classes! If i had more time i'd love to do my own podcast... some of the ones out there are on really interesting topics, but are so poorly produced that they are not even worth listening to. Does anyone have any experience publishing podcasts? I think it'd be awesome for BT to do its own... i'd def listen to it... (plus it'd be another place to sell some sponsorships and bring in some $$ for Ron) I gotta save up to get a nano so i can bring all my fav podcasts w/ me... but for now... i'll have to sit in front of my computer to enjoy them. |

Champion 13323 | Subject: RE: Podcast... Anyone? This thread is intriguing me more and more. Podcasts, and even just 'live' internet radio broadcasts by BT members and special guest would be too cool. Redbull is correct. Would be easy to setup - even video for the new audio/video pods. Let me know if any members would be interested in hosting their own 30-60minutes 'radio' shows - anything tri related, and possibly unrelated (COJ Members) |

Then do you just push the download button? GJ Here is my understanding of podcasts.. (i've only gotten into 'em in the past 2 months or so... so if i have anything wrong feel free to correct me) Podcasts dont actually require an ipod of any kind. I don't even own one, but listen to podcasts daily. The bare bones: they are downloadable radio shows, mostly talk-radio formats, but some do have music. You can get everything from tri info to news to some chick blabbering about her life while while naked in a bathtub... Yes someone actually invented the "bathcast" www.soccergirlincorporated.com From my experience, all podcasts are completely free to download. I havn't run accross any that you have to pay for...nor would i ever consider paying for one... Although there are plenty of methods to find/download/manage podcasts, i use iTunes which has a directory of podcasts to search through. You can 'subscribe' to a podcast on iTunes so that whenever a new episode is posted, it will automatically download to your computer for your listening pleasure. Podcasters are anyone from major corporations, to news organizations, to the soccer-mom next door... That is about the extent of my knowledge about podcasts... I'd absolutely love to do whatever i cant to start up a BT.com podcast... b'c clearly... it would be the best podcast out there |

Extreme Veteran 481 Coppell | Subject: RE: Podcast... Anyone? GJ, as far as I know you don't even need an Ipod to experience a podcast. I'm pretty sure you need Itunes to get the podcasts, because that's how Apple is getting it out there. But as long as its in a format you can listen to (mp3 and aac) then you SHOULD be able to put it on your choice of players. For anyone wanting to do one, start here: http://www.apple.com/support/garageband/podcasts/ Or go to your favorite search engine and search "create podcast". I'd definitely check out a BT podcast and if I had the time I'd put one together. But alas, the world is not so giving. |

Master 1938 La Crosse | Subject: RE: Podcast... Anyone? I'm crazy into listening to podcasts . . . Endurance radio is a big favorite at the moment. Interesting sports talk, not so long that I lose interest. Zen and the art of triathlon I used to be into, but it's a bit amateur and long. Amateur I can stand, long I can stand, amateur and long not so much. Other faves . . . KCRW's le show (Harry Shearer!), BBC's In Our Time (Brilliant minds . . . on your ipod!), Benjamen Walker's Theory of everything (weird, wacky, it's like This American Life except without the paying money part), Little Grey Book Lectures (on indefinite hiatus?) I've got too much stuff on my ipod as it is. I'd have to work out 40 hours a week just to keep up. Hey, there's an idea! |

Champion 5183 Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Podcast... Anyone? wow, this is so timely! (for me anyway) On friday I attended a web based conference (cool in and of itself) on podcasts for coursework at the university level. It was really intriguing, I have been listening to a few regualrly and knew about it, but this conference gave me so many ideas and tips on how to create them. I am mostly posting so when this thread keeps going, I'll get emails! On monday I'll post some of my notes... |

Expert 707 Kansas | Subject: RE: Podcast... Anyone? Itunes is cool but if you search around you can find other options.... As far as doing a BT show I think that would be really cool just to be able to listen to others talk about what they do in training and race day. pds0006 - 2005-10-22 7:01 PM GJ, as far as I know you don't even need an Ipod to experience a podcast. Master 1275 Sonoma County, CA | Subject: RE: Podcast... Anyone? On another side of the Podcasts coin I'm going to shamelessly plug the website http://www.audible.com.I got turned onto it for my son who is legally blind and reads braille, but LOVES books on tape. They have differnt sub plans...like $21 a month and you can get 2-3 different books (at seriously discounted prices off of books on cd's) and you download them to your computer where you can listen to them there, burn a cd or....put them on an ipod or an mp3 player. with the sub plan I signed up for (mentioned above) they sent me a free ipod shuffle. So now Jack (my son) has like 7 different books on his shuffle that he can rotate. I also subscribed and put books on my mp3 player when I'm tired of listening to music. This is the $$ route, but I see the role of sites like this EXPLODING over the next few years. They've done an amazing job of partnering with different companies and I'm starting to see their name everywhere. Their latest partnership is with Palm Treo, I believe. You can download summaries of most of the major newspapers (they offer a sub for this one as well). This may explain it better...pulled off their site: "Audible is your home for premium digital audio entertainment and information. Choose from more than 25,000 best-selling digital audioboooks, radio shows, audio versions of popular magazines, daily newspapers, and more. Download your audio programs in minutes and listen using your iPod®, Palm OS handheld, Pocket PC, Creative® MuVo®, PC, Mac, or on CDs you burn." Edited by crpadiem 2005-10-23 11:06 AM |

Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: RE: Podcast... Anyone? I only know a bit about podcasts but Ive got a radio background (and some of my clients do them) so I can imagine it wouldnt be too hard ot put together some good quality 'shows' for BT. The priciples would be the same...in terms of putting it together. And it doenst take a huge amount of work/tools to make a relatively slick sounding production. The main issue is content, but this site has so many knowledgable people... If it started happening i would definately be listening! |

I listened to all the Harry POtters via audible. Makes being stuck in teh car a lot less miserable. I've been a subscriber at audible since Nov /03. Pretty much any time I'm in the car longer than 20 minutes, I'm listening to an audio book on my iPod. I pay $20/month, and get 2 books. Some months I go through more than two, so if they have a sale on I might pick up a couple extra. Some months I go through less (like the month I waded through The Iliad ) I haven't tried any of the podcasts, but after these posts, I'm going to have to check that out too. |
