I'm a brand spankin' newbie on the beautiful island of Kauai! I initially set my sights on a Tri next spring b/c I'm getting married in July - figured this would be a fabulous way to get in shape. Now that I have somewhat officially started training (read: actually registered for the race) I'm very excited. I rode a bike for the first time in at least 5 years and loved it! Except for that part where I forgot how to turn a corner at the bottom of a steep hill and hit gravel.. but I have some wicked wounds now! I'm signed up for sprint distance tri in Kailua Oahu next April. I've also set my sights on an Olympic distance one in July so we shall see! The hardest part for me is keeping a regular schedule. I work two jobs and have other commitments so that I have to continually juggle my workout schedule.  In addition to getting in shape for my wedding, I'm also trying to get into better shape for the outrigger canoe season here which runs from January to the end of September!! I look forward to learning from everyone on BT!

Welcome! I'll be in Hawai'i for Christmas, but on the Big Island (Kona side), not Kauai. Enjoy your training in beautiful Hawai'i! It sounds like you're used to juggling a lot, so just train smart and you will see results. This sport is addictive - enjoy!

Wow Emiko, you're going to be busy.  And you didn't even mention all the planning for the wedding.  Good luck with your tri-training and feel free to post any questions here.  There are lots of good resources on this site.  Kauai looks beautiful based on the picture of it on my Hawaii wall calendar.

Welcome....I used to live out there in the Aloha State you are lucky since you can train year around. Outrigger season is going to help you build muscle, just be careful on your bike. Good Luck
