Everyone knows this sport can cost money - new bike, another new bike and all that. 'Course it is possible to spend less - but here I am waiting for payday again. So this box arrives from Nashbar and my darling wife wants to know what THIS stuff is.  "Safety equipment honey - someone on BT said I need a bright shirt so people can see me when I am riding on the road!" - I figure bright sox, gloves, skull cap...  You get the idea - I needed this stuff for saftey's sake - right people?  I said RIGHT PEOPLE??

that is too funny that you posted this today.  I ordered some stuff from DeSoto and SwimOutlet a few days ago.  Hubby was home when one box was delivered but didn't say anything.  I showed him the goggles when they came and he just rolled his eyes.  So last night I had this weird dream, you know those plastic lace locks?  Laces slide thru them so you don't have to tie them, it's fast and they're a buck for a pair.  Well, in my dream I ordered 2 pairs of lace locks and when the box arrived hubby flipped out.  "What the hell did you order now?"
I told him about the dream when I woke up (the lace locks were green by the way) and he just laughed.

Malvey, you look like you're ready to ride a motorcycle, not a bicycle!  Great pic!

I'm there for you, malvey! Safety is essential and that was clearly your first concern when purchasing your new toys...ummm..... essential items.

Now, I have no idea if that's TRUE or not, but I'll be glad to SAY it to your wife or whoever..... Got any theories how I'm going to explain my two new bathing suits as safety items?

You are absolutely right....of course safety comes first! It is very important to look colourful so that passers by don't mistake you for part of the scenery and get run overas you are whizzing by.
(by the way, that Hotwheels outfit rocks!!!)

You have to be careful! Safety has to come first and doesn't have a price tag on it!.  Maybe we can start a company online called Bike Safety because you have to be safe.  All packages could come in a plain brown box!

You guys are too funny...from now on when I order something for my sport that's what I'm going to tell my hubbie. "It's for Safety!" He'll probably want to spend the money on my life insurance policy. LOL

why yes, yes I do have an idea     You said the others were becoming a little bare in certain places right?  So the new suits are to keep your butt safe from voyeurs.

I think I better have some coffee before I read any more threads............

Now THIS is a thread with some really good thinking. Michael - the plain brown wrapper thing - great idea for a BT fundraiser. Folks have all their safety equipment sent to us and we mail it out in a brown box marked, "Safety Equipment."  Andrea - how about this...  Two suits is more economical than one suit. A scientific study (funded by the government of course) has discovered that swim suits are like running shoes - they need a day off to recover and for washing out the chlorine. So -two suits eventually are cheaper than one suit.

And - here's another reason I need this equipment is that I write motivation material and my safety equipment purchases keeps me motivated. Broke - but motivated...   Let's see, there are surely some other good reasons we need our stuff...

That is a kick! Same thing is happening around here. My husband was just looking at the credit card statement, and says, "did you spend x dollars at trisports.com, and x dollars at Title 9 sports, and......" You get the picture.

Oh yeah, and I got a baby jogger.

Safety....yeah that is what I should say! ;-)

do you need anymore support in the 'safety' rhetoric, malvey??

I'm willing to stand behind you, but if we overdue it, your wife might get a leeeetle suspicious!!
