Pre-race routine:

Breakfast as usual before a long run. Energy bar & gel prior to race start.
Event warmup:

Anyone been in Ireland??? 40 shades of green for a reason! RAIN and more RAIN! standing in warmups & black coverall for 30 mins prior to start in p**sing rain & cold. Not good and it showed in run time.
Run
  • 4h 05m 15s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 09m 22s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

Stay warmer, the timing chip only activates when I cross the dam start line, I could have stayed out of the way and dry (like many more experienced runners did, they passed us throughout the race)
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Kidney stones - blood at 18miles. Cold & wet

Event comments:

Its a good race, a fair but tough course that I feel lack of experience caught me out on. I will definitely do this race again next year but with a different training plan behind me.
The photos are uploaded to show how wet & cold the dam race was, by the way I'm Irish so I should be used to running in rain, snow, cold etc.

Awesome! I'm planning on running the Connemara marathon as my first when I come to Ireland in December. I'm going to be living in Belfast for 6 months, and figure that marathon training will keep my mind off of university for a while! (hehe)

but hey, you finished upright and you look like you had a great time.
