Subject: Old guy new to TriathlonI'm 37, have always wanted to do a triathlon, but kids, work everything, any excuse I could think of. Been a smoker since i was 20. A friend passed away last week, heart attack, he was 41. That was a real eye opener. Looked at my two kids and wife (who by the way will be running in her first Marathon in Jan ) and made up my mind to just do it. No more excuses. I realized I need to get myself back in shape, but needed a goal, so my goal is to complete my first triathlon (probably sprint tri ) before my birthday in June. So I quit smoking (I know this will be the toughest part, but my wife doesn't think I can do it, so that's more motivation ). I ride my bike a little during the summer, play softball, go to the gym over lunch 3 or 4 times a week (mostly weights ). I'm excited to do this, a little nervous, but very excited. |
