Pre-race routine:

Even though this was "only" a 5k it was my first ever race. The purpose of this race was to become familiar with the racing atmosphere before my 1/2 marathon in February. I had no time goals. Slept well the night before and even stayed in bed for an extra 30 minutes when I woke up. Got up and started to feel very nervous and kinda sick. I could only eat a quarter of a peanut butter/Special K sandwich. My nerves wouldn't let me stomach anything else.

The best part of this race was that I got to wear my brand new custom made t-shirt that said "DFL > DNS" For all you non-math geeks that's a greater than sign. I wore it for the race and I kept telling myself that while I was running.
Event warmup:

Just kinda walked around, still nervous. Joked that I was glad that it was a little cold, because people just thought I was shaking from the cold and not from nerves like I really was. Saw H13 and Joannh13. He was running the 1/2 marathon, she was doing her own special 10k race. It was good to see some people that I knew from the website, it calmed me down a bit.

Comments:

OMG I ROCKED THE PANTS OFF THIS RACE. I have never ever run this fast in my entire life!

Look how freaking fast I ran. It was hard. I ran the first 1.5 miles, then at the turn around I walked 0.5 mile, then pretty much ran the rest of the way. I CAN NOT believe how fast I ran. I didn't think I had it in me. When I came up to the finish line and I saw 36minutes, I almost freaked! I could NOT believe it. I felt so so incredibly great.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, had some gatorade and jambalaya, stretched a little, had an AminoVital - it was tasty - like lemonade, and smiled the biggest smile you've ever seen.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

After I finish a hard work out, I always feel like I could have gone faster and harder. I did have that feeling today.

Sounds like you had a great time. Congrats on a terrific run. Its amazing when your body and mind sense the "I am in a race mindset". Very proud of you for sticking to this through awful circumstances. Keep up the good work.

I had an incredibly great time. When it was all over, all I could think was, okay, I really must be crazy if I really want to do a swim AND a bike before THAT. But man, talk about motivation. It was great, it was just great.

That is AWESOME! You are so cool. I remember my first race -- I was freaking out! My first race was a 5k too and I can't say that I did as well as you did!

You rock so hard for rocking the pants off that race!

How could you possibly say 10 days ago that you couldn't beat me in a 5k.  You DID!  The most imprtant thing, though, is that you had fun and you were satisfied with the race you ran.  That's all that matters.  I am so proud of you!!!!!!!!!!  Brandy, YOU ROCK!!!!!!

Thank you  I still can't believe I ran that fast. I can't believe I was able to run that long.

I'm still smiling from this victory - yes victory over myself.
