I find that after 3 hours in the closet, Nola's attention is sharpened dramatically.

I swear, you turn my daughter gay and I'll....do...something....bad. Yeah.

So not to hijack, but I've always said I'd be happy as a clam if Nola was gay. No teen prganancies, no STDs, and thanks to our Republican breathren, no expensive weddings to pay for.

But sadly, since at 5-and-a-half, she's on I think her 4th boyfriend, it doesn't appear to be in the cards.

Man, I really just shouldn't come on BT at work. I have spewed a beverage all over my monitor and keyboard yet again. Jeez....

I wouldn't have a problem with a gay child, but where I live right now (small town conservative America) I don't think he/she would last.

In the last election outside of federal offices every name on the ballot was a republican.

just some clarification (and yes, I am hyjacking, but this is important) uh, I'm not sure what you mean by "not lasting." But there is not a single gay person I know who would rather lie about who they are than live as the person God made them to be. Additionallly, there are compassionate, sensible, Republicans who support gay rights. There are even gay republicans. And finally, I would hope that as a parent, you would do all you could to support your child regardless of the political climate of your community. If a gay child/person "can't last" I blame the people who supposedly love him/her.

Wow possum didn't mean to ruffle any feathers, My wife and I both had gay friends in our wedding, I am very supportive, I just see how my students and their parents react at the idea of gay people in their community!

With the exception of "W" I have always voted RED (this may be the end of me at BT).

Why would it be the end of you? Not to speak for Hollis, but I think she was just looking for what you meant by "wouldn't last." I agree that it would suck having to watch a gay child grow up in a discriminatory, hostil environment.

But having to "watch" implies inaction. If it were Nola, and she faced anything like that, I would be so far up in the @ss of any parent of any kid who said the first negative thing to her regarding her sexuality. And ditto for any teachers or administrators on whose watch it happened.

Luckily, I live in a pretty tolerant community. A little island of blue in a big sea of red. BUt Hollis is also right that Republican doesn't necessarily equate to gay basher. But they are pretty few and far between.
