Subject: Job offer!?!
I recently just moved to the area, so have been unemployed for the past month. Last week I had the WORST interview of my life. Left saying I never want to see the place again. Then today they call and offer me the job! What the heck??!! They said they were "impressed" by me. I'm totally shocked. Of course I need the job and the cash, and it sounds interesting, but not totally sure if Id want to work there. Was hoping on a different one I interviewed at. So now Im so confused. They need to know by tomorrow, my gut is saying go for it. Goodness...

Wait, what was bad about the interview? Did you think that you had done poorly when you left the interview, or did you think they were gonzo insane psycho ministry of silly walks bad people to work for? Because it makes a difference . . .

I thought they were looking for someone with a totally different background than I have. And they asked the corny interview questions " Tell me of a problem you've had and how did you solve it" sort of thing. I thought I rambled and didnt answer things well. I just felt uneasy. The people were nice though, Im assuming its a decent company to work for, from what Ive heard.

That's not corny, it's just "behavioral-based interviewing." Instead of asking hypothetical questions, they ask you to describe specific situations and the outcomes. It's good for discerning how you actually handle situations, instead of how you *think* you'd handle situations. Also harder to BS.

Welcome to lovely South/Southeastern WI. Sun Prairie is outside of Madison, correct? What can you lose by taking the job for a bit?

Reminds me of the Groucho Marx quip, "I don't want to belong to any club that would have me as a member." Smile

Hey, take the job.  You clearly came across better than you thought, and it's a job.  If you dont' like it, use it as a spring board to something bigger and better.

If the interview was some of your crappier work, then when you actually start doing good work they will really be impressed!!

Have you contacted the "A" job - the one you were really hoping for?  Tell 'em you really want to work there, but you have an offer in hand.  Worst case, they say no and you take the "B" job. If "B" job really sucks, well, your resume is already up-to-date.
