Subject: Swim training
Hey guys--

again I'm new to the tri scene and am training for a sprint tri in April. Began swimming not too long ago and I am now realizing how hard it actually is. I am able to run 3 miles no problem and I havent biked in about 2 months (since I dont have a bike at school). I was wondering if you guys had any programs to train for swimming for someone who can do, 3 laps in a 25 meter pool and then be tired. Is this bad or what? haha

I think that for the time spent swimming is the most physicaly exhausting of the 3 disciplines.

If you can get ahold of the book total immersion swimming, it is well worth the time and $$.

Just keep practicing, take breaks when needed. Form is the most important thing to work on.

That is very common with new triathletes.  The key is to not let it discourage you, because you'll get past it fairly quickly.

There are a number of good resources available, but the best is lessons from an experienced swim coach. A lot of triathletes also use the Total Immersion series of books, DVDs and swim camps.

Take a look at some of these articles . Some are for more advanced swimmers, but there's a lot  of useful amount of information there for beginners.

And when I started, I couldn't do a complete lap. 1.5 lengths and I was out of breath. Just give it time and focussed steady effort and you'll be fine.

You basically use your 'easy' stroke more most laps, (back, breast, side) and then work in more and more forward crawl,
