You were having a heart attack? How about the family of the referee who called that an "incomplete pass" on the interception? Never mind the last minute drama with Bettis etc., had Indy won that game, the Steelers would have gotten screwed over on an obviously idiotic call.

That would be Troy Polamalu.

It was reviewed, right?  The guy's with an encyclopedic knowledge of the rules called it, right?  I haven't taken the time to look it up but the way they explained it made sense... sure it's obscure and seems weird, and as an occasional Raider's fan all I can say is... Tuck Rule.  It all worked out.  The guy who never fumbles fumbled and the guy who never misses from inside of 50 yds did just that.  Hat's off to Big Ben (go Miami Alum) for the tackle of the century for a quarterback.

I'm still not sure I understand the ruling after the review. Polamalu caught the ball and made a football move with it, yes? He caught it, and hugged it to his belly, then his knee touched the ground. Possession. If, at that moment, he had been touched by a Colt player, he would have been ruled down. If, from that moment on, he had fumbled and then recovered his own fumble, (which is what actually happened) that would have been a fumble and a recovery, not a lack of posession.

Other folks are confused by this, too, like the author of Freakonomics:

Here’s what happened: the Colts’ Peyton Manning threw a pass that was intercepted by Steelers safety Troy Polamalu, who tumbled to the ground, got up to run, knocked the ball out of his own hands with his knee, and then fell on the ball. Somehow, however, the officials reviewed the tape and called the play an incomplete pass. I’m sure that even Peyton Manning’s own dad, Archie, realized it was a horrible call.

And ESPN's Pasquaralli:

"That's what you do in the playoffs," said Polamalu, who figured into one of the game's most unusual and controversial calls, when officials overturned an apparent interception after Colts coach Tony Dungy challenged the pickoff.

The Philadelphia Inquirer:

The toughest obstacle for Steelers? It's officials

NFL.com:

Then things got wacky:

• All-Pro safety Troy Polamalu made a diving interception of Peyton Manning at the Pittsburgh 48 with 5:26 remaining. He got up to run and fumbled the ball, but recovered -- only to have it mysteriously overturned by referee Pete Morelli.

Yeah, I'm glad to see the Steelers win

And now the NFL has done what it rarely does, and admitted that the ruling to overturn the interception-fumble-recovery was incorrect.

Now, what about the false-start / off-sides? Play is stopped, players are milling around on each side of the line of scrimmage, it's got to be one or the other -- doesn't it?

I don't think we'll see that crew working the super bowl this year.

Since my Bills have been out of it all season - I am really hoping the Bus returns to his hometown (Detroit) and ends his career with a super bowl victory.

Yeah, I couldn't believe the dimed out their official like that.  I suppose it's nice if they're at least big enough to admit it.  I remember that non-PI call... that one was ridiculous.

Porter's still an idiot.
