Subject: A few Q's on training plans...
Regarding the Olympic, Basic 12 Week - HR Zone Based training plan:

1) Are the Sat and Sun workouts to be done as bricks?

2) Do all the rides/runs on “flat courses” really have to be done on flat courses (or on the mill) or can I run/ride some hills and just keep my HR in the appropriate zone?

3) If a workout doesn’t specify a “flat course,” should I assume hills or doesn’t it matte as long as the HR zone(s) are observed?

Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob, that plan is one our plans that restricts details to Silver and Gold performance memberships.

But I have a note in to Ricci to answer your general questions regarding it....I can address the first item, most of the Sat/Sunday double sessions are NOT bricks...Mike will get the other two.

Hi Rob -

To answer your questions:

1. It's only a brick if specified as 'brick'

2. No. My intent is to not have people drilling the hills week after week - and you are going to get more out of a flat run or ride b/c you can keep the pace/HR constant and you aren't coasting on down hills.

3. You don't have to assume hills, but I would leave it more to a day 'on how you feel' so if you feel spunky hit the hills (keep HR in appropriate zones) and if not, keep it on the flats.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions!

Mike

Hi Rob, that plan is one our plans that restricts details to Silver and Gold performance memberships.

I'm going to be upgrading my membership within the next few days.

So, it seems that most of the workouts are designed to be done on the flats. What about riding/running the hills to get better at hills? (I know you said to go by how you feel on a given day, but is LT/HR zone training on the flats really so good that you can skip the hills?)

Also, just wondering if these plans are built on Periodization?--I'm not challenging the design, just wondering because I obviously don't know my arse from my elbow when it comes to this stuff!

Thanks guys,
Rob

You know, my first instinct was "I think I'll Ron answer this one". I've gotta work on trusting my instincts.

Rob - once you get a base built, then we work on hills. Its in the plan. As far as periodization - there are about 1,000,000 models to use. My plan uses something pretty simple at this level. 2 weeks of higher volume, 1 week of lower volume. Repeat.

Ahh... I guess I didn't see this in the quick/sample view.

Sounds good to me.

I guess the next step is to upgrade and import.

Thanks again.
