Overall Rank = 6/39

Age Group Rank = 2/
Pre-race routine:

Coffee and banana and half of a Power Harvest Bar before leaving the house. Tough to chew on the bar due to the trigeminal nerve problem rearing its ugly head this past week. Stretched twice before leaving the house.
Event warmup:

5-minute bike ride just to get a feel for the wind direction. Very cold (for me, at least) with a 15-25 mph cold wind. Did a lot of jogging just to keep warm.
Run
  • 14m 50s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Cold so probably went out too fast just to try to warm up. Realized at the first mile that I was taking it out too fast.
What would you do differently?:

Rein myself in first mile.
Transition 1
  • 00m 28s
Comments:

Fingers were cold so it was a little difficult to get the feet into the shoes. Wore those fancy toe warmers on the shoes so my feet stayed toasty warm!!!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Gloves probably would've been clumsy so didn't boether with them.

  • 10 miles
  • 18.48 mile/hr
Comments:

It rained last night so there were a few large puddles to have to move around. A few of the gusts while it was a crosswind made it tough to stay upright.
What would you do differently?:

Be better trained. It's just the beginning of the season so it's okay so far.
Transition 2
  • 00m 35s
Comments:

Handlebar got caught on the support pole of the rack so I had to take a few seconds to rerack it right. Fingers were numb so putting shoes on was a bit tough.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 15m 17s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

I was so cold coming off the bike all I wanted to do was get the race over with.
Kind of a funny story in the last 1/2 mile though. I could hear another runner right behind me for a good long time, but wanted to hold my pace so I just let him draft behind me. Then, in the last 1/4 mile he passes me... my GOSH! He had to be at least 5'8"! He was gigantic! All I could think was, why is someone that big drafting off me...I should be drafting off him! So I stayed right behind him and sprinted past him to the finish line! (hope the finish line photographer gets a pic of THAT one!!)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing more I could do.
Post race
Warm down:

Got warmer clothes on and sat in the van with the heater on until the awards!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cold, jaw trouble made it tough to get proper nutrition in this past week or so. Did I mention cold?!?
