i hate to be the one to say it BUT.... any scientist that knows what they are talking about will tell you that planets go through "hot" and "cold" periods. having data from 50 years, when a period is 1000 years, is too small a data set. YES its getting hotter, but could we be in a "hot" period? show me the fing data for 500 years.........

but then again its cool to hate exxon, not everyone who drives and SUV. its the drug dealers fault not the colleeg kids who buy the sh*t.

Actually I just thought it was cute, didnt say I agreed with it all! I wasnt about to make a  political statement, as I don't know enough to back myself up for either side.... though the rest of you who are more knowledgeable are more than welcome to debate it!!

Both sides have valid points. Tyrant is correct about the Earth going through hot and cold periods. The orbit of the Earth is not constant. Rather, it becomes more elliptical over time until it reaches a certain point when it will start to become more circular. When the Earth is at its most circular orbit we have ice ages. When the Earth’s orbit is becoming more elliptical we are recovering from an ice age. This will continue until the Earth becomes too hot and the cycle starts again. This being said, it is ridiculous to think that the additional carbon monoxide and dioxide we are pumping into the atmosphere are not enhancing the greenhouse effect. They are, thus raising the Earth’s temperature at a higher rate than if these gasses were not accumulating in the atmosphere as quickly as they are.

This being said, that video was funny as hell.

I find it funny that the number one emitter of CO2 is the earth itself. Volcanoes, gas eruptions, etc, put more into the atmosphere than we do. I think there is room to look at all possibilities, but I believe that the ecosystem, not to sound cliche, is greater than the sum of its parts.

BTW, own Exxon, Valero, Royal Dutch Shell, and Chevron Texaco stock. Life is good, Keep driving!!!!

Read State of Fear...the new Crichton book, it may be fiction but his research is impressive and the theory about the media/academic institutions and Govts perpetuating a fear midset to keep us subservient is pretty intertesting ( very conspiracy theory orientated)
Global warming is their vehicle....

I heard that the giant Windmills kill lots of birds?

So instead of using oil, should we build more dams on rivers to get  non polluting Hydroelectical power?

What's even scarier is to think if the guy wasn't a best-selling author, he's got a MD (shudder!). Dr. Hack!

Yeah, I'm extremely impressed. I know a few MDs, I also know you can be a great MD while still being a hack writer. Or you can be a lousy MD and a hack writer.

By the way, Dan Brown, bestselling author, is also a hack. Ditto John Grisham (lawyer, hack writer). Hack, hack, hack.

And hack.

HEY NOW!!!!   Just becuse it's TRUE!!!!

Except my emmisions are methane based.  SO, perhaps if I can connect my ARSE to a steam turbine, light the methane, heat the water, create the steam to turn the turbine, thereby creating a clean burning and RELIABLE source of power.

Oh yeah, while we are at it, I have naturally very oily skin, so perhaps we can find a way to convert that into a usable oil substitute.  Again, a very RELIABLE source.

WOW, I COULD BE WEALTHY JUST OFF OF BODY NOISES AND OILS!!!

Yeah, interesting about how global warming will feed on itself. Not that global warming exists. It's just a tool to control people's behaviour. A nefarious plot hatched by tree huggers and hippies. That scientist in the 60 Minutes story who Reagan hired to research global warming back in the '80s must have been bought off by Greenpeace to now be claiming that global warming actually exists.

Crighton, MD (Harvard!) may be many things, but he is not a good writer. He must definitely be quite intelligent, but his intelligence has apparently not helped his writing. And now he apparently is looking for a new niche as the dittohead's favourite thriller writer. I guess the ER revenues weren't paying enough.

On a side note, I'm trying to get through Dan Brown's Angels and Demons. I'm having trouble because my eyes keep rolling back into my head.

He's a hack who has an MD from Harvard (I think).

I find it amusing that Michael Crichton's medical degree is such a strong qualification for his analysis of climate change, trumping the combined education and erudition of the members of the National Academy of Sciences, the US National Research Council, the American Meteorological Society, the Americal Geophysical Union, as well as the national science academies of all of the G8 nations as well as those of Brazil, China, and India.

Of course, these are the evil fear-mongers who stand to benefit from propagating the myth of climate change.  We all know that the large corporations whose business is based on the extraction and emission of carbon in to the atmosphere have absolutely no financial stake in maintaining the status quo.

Not so much. The number of birds killed by wind turbines is a drop in the bucket compared to the numbers killed by plate glass windows and housecats.

"Findings...Significant raptor mortality recorded. (Exceptionally high raptor and prey density.) Small numbers of some other species involved."

let us not overlook the "findings" for one turbine plantation. i think the REAL data indicates that fewer birds in the area = less fatalities. and let us not forget the birds that get hurt and suffer. WEAK study, way too loose in the study.
