Subject: Training Group Anyone?

Hey all you Hawaii BTers! I was wondering if anyone would be interested in creating a weekly or biweekly training group? We could meet on Fri, Sat or Sun on a weekly or biweekly basis for a run/swim or a group ride. If the folks that are interested live on different parts of the island we could alternate where we meet. I think this would be a great way to maybe create a friendship or two, meet the faces behind the names here on BT as well as help build motivation in our training. We'll try to be as accomidating as possible regarding schedules. Hopefully this will work our for the betterment of us all.

I am no speed demon in any of the three disciplines so don't worry about getting left behind. I would propose that these groups prioritize base training over intensity. I think that this would keep most of us near the same pace and would serve to alienate less prospective participants.

AirWreck and I may get together this Fri (3/3/6) at Kailua Beach (thread) for a swim/run session. Anyone interested is more than welcome to join us. The more the merrier!

I checked Kailua Beach this morning and its still closed for water activities due to contaminated run off. Hopefully "monsoon" season will ease now that we are into March. Lemme know when you want to resked.

Cool - thats four of us on the island that want to get together for some training. I've had to back off from my training while I nurse knee issues and figure out how to get into this runnning thing without injury. I will probably have to bail from my first HIM in May but still hope to make Lanikai.

Looks like we're still on hold for windward beaches. Hopefully this storm won't be add too many days to the closures.

Mark, I would love to come over for a swim. But, I think I am going to take SUnday off for a rest after draggin my *** thru the mud on Saturday. Although, a swim could be a good recovery. If the weather is nice I may just swim down here at Lanikai. But, thanks for the offer. Anyone want to ride the course here ? I know it like the back of my hand. We only have 3 weeks to go. Did you guys see that the race is closed, no more room for sign ups.

wookie, you still in the game??  the newspaper yesterday there was another X'thousand gallons of untreated sewage runoff into the ocean over there in Kailua.....  i know the roads are potholed / trashed....  you think you'll want to be swimming amongst the runoff / spills in just another 12 days for the Lanikai Tri??

The way its going, we should all be swimming as much as possible...we might end up having to swim to the mainland if these deluges keep up!

I braved the Ala Moana measured course for the first time on Sunday...unbeknownst to the millions of gallons of poo streaming in from the Ala Wai just around the corner. Which begs the question - is ignorance really bliss???!

I'm officially on the injured list for Lanikai but I'll join in on the sun dance for all of you!

Wookie - I was doing some research on the Garmin GPS's and saw you were looking for a Forerunner 305. Not sure if you pulled the trigger, but I was down at Island Tri & Bike on Sunday. They have the Edge and I think older versions of the Forerunner. They will probably get the new F305 at some point. I was kicking it around but think I'm going to wait and see what happens. They seem to be getting smaller and better each year. Let me know if you got one and what you think.

Ya mon, definite drag w/ the poo factor. I haven't heard that they closed Kailua Beach again, but its definitely possible. Make sure your shots are up to date for Lanikai

I'm on Day Three of an enforced Couch Potato Sloth Marathon. Well ok, I cheated yesterday and broke down...had to at least hit the pool and do some TI drills. I see my PT this morning where we are going to reevaluate where I'm at. Meanwhile I am slowly being sucked into the Sloth Vortex. But don't panic, there's good reading in here. I've summitted Everest three times (once from the North Face), run a couple of marathons and now am running the Western States 100 ultra marathon. I'm scheduled to go to Antartica next. Ahhhhhh the library is a wonderful place

Hey all,

Just purchased a ticket to visit a friend that lives in Honolulu.  I think I'm going to have some downtown seeing as he still needs to maintain a work schedule so if anyone wants to train- LET ME KNOW!  I'm pumped about the visit.  It will be my first time somewhere "tropical."  Big change from Wisconsin!
