Subject: RE: Chocoalte chip cookie dough pop tarts?Pop tarts don't really qualify as food.
I've done some consulting work for a huge food manufacturer, and after spending a few weeks in some of those factories, packaged food doesn't look the same to me anymore.
The general formula is this: Take raw ingredients like sugar, fruit, cheese, grains etc. and process the living sh!t out of it until you can form it into something that looks nothing like the original ingredient then you package it 2 to 3 times and market it to the masses. By the time it reaches your plate, you have very little of nutritional value left.
The food is secondary to the marketing (or branding, if you prefer ).
I shop mainly in the outside aisles of the grocery store (greens, fruit ). As little packaging and processing as possible.
My Mom subscribed my wife and I to this newsletter. It's very informative. They even have a "Food Porn" section.
